Toshiba 42XV635DB Reviews: 42" Screen LCD Full HD 1080p TV

+ Very good value - simple and fast to set-up - blue ray films look stunning

- Only complaint is that sky channels automatically change the picture size to 4:3 or widescreen, so we have to keep changing it back to our prefered viewing size (super live). This is very annoying as when you change it to superlive, it changes back to 4:3 when the programme resumes after adverts have been on.

- sound quality above low volumes,Relativly thick front to back.

+ Excelent picture quality both on HD and SD inputs. Extensive range of connectivity options. Screen does not suffer from glare very much from lights or sunlight.

- Setting up all the different options was a quite complicated. Only limited manual with it and had to download full maunual, however when I finaly managed to get everything set up for all inputs everything else has been plain sailing. Small annoyance is when you are on TV guide then the cannel sound does not mute but thats being pick as its very easy to press the mute button.

+ The picture quality in full HD is as one would hope stunning and better than acceptable in SD. As a PC monitor again it is faultless. Like many flat screen the speakers are compromised as they are hidden away but for normal TV watching they do a good job but for a big Movie, secondary speakers may be of help to get the full experience There is little you can not connect to the TV and some I have yet to try but so far the picture is good on all.

- As there is so much control over the TV's various elements the buttons take some getting grips with. I have a VHS player which I use from time to time and changing to take it analogue input is a bit fiddly. That is the only failing discovered so far and I can live with that.

+ Pound for pound this is a great product. Easy to assemble the unit. Get lots for your money 4 HDMI, SD Card and USB slot, scart connections etc. Styling is elegant. Sound quality not bad for a LCD screen. vast range of display settings to play with to suit your viewing. Navigation through menu quite easy and intuative, Freeview channels great quality picture. connected to my laptop via HDMi - excellent quality and very easy. DVD quality very good. Blu-ray to be tested.
Overall I would highly recommend this model if looking in this price range. (£579 @ Dixons on-line 1 week special offer.)

- Maybe down to my knowledge of product but I have seen this comment elsewhere - the screen setting resets itself to original 4:3 broadcast setting from Wide/Cinema, when changing source. (DTV to ATV)
Switch on / startup is little slow.

- Image quality not the best, however it was less than £600.

+ It was the television we particularly wanted, a Toshiba, and we were really pleased that we were able to save an extra £70 ordering on line.

+ Good looks and stylish. Great value at £579 for 100Hz 1080P 42"LCD. I chose to save some more money and install myself. The glass stand was easy to build and the TV easy to mount. Sound and picture quality is good. I have connected to SKY HD and the picture and colour are superb. Good reception of Digital TV using sepearate internal antennae.

- Not really a bad point but the remote could have been a little more stylish to complement the quality of the TV
