Picture is fabulous, Resolution+ really does make Standard Definition (normal TV) pictures clearer and the colour reproduction is great. That it automatically adjusts the picture brightness to the level of room lighting is very convenient, but this is also customisable to your own tastes. If there is a picture setting you want to twiddle with, this set has the option, but the basics are easy to master too. The USB socket plays back photos with ease and with 4 HDMI sockets it is very future friendly.
-
Sound is quite thin, which for a slim TV with small speakers isn't surprising. It doesn't distort, just doesn't have any noticeable bass punch, so you'd need a separate speaker setup to enjoy action movie soundtracks.

Very good controls for changing screen type and input source. multi hdmi inputs + vga and two scarts. Game mode for pixel for pixel viewing for online gaming. I've connected it up to my desktop pc (via hdmi), my DVD player via scart, my laptop (via vga) and my stereo amp via optical audio. I've been able to wall mount it easily. There is not too much plastic surrounding the screen, and it is easy to turn off the 'Toshiba' sign at the bottom of the screen, I did almost straight away though some may like it!
-
Its heavy - which is a stupid thing for me to say as I dont go round picking up 32" tvs, so I have nothing to compare it with. It picks up dust - it does have a lovely shine, and there is an anti-static cloth in the box - more than I would have expected. The speakers aren't sufficient for a decent movie experience. It was not clear on the box/spec that no cabling was provided which was a gip as I had spend some time to find some that didnt cost too much.

I'm incredibly impressed by my new AV635. The Electronic Programme Guide is useful & easy to use, for example, you can select to just view what movies are due on that day. Unlike some other TV's with built in Freeview, this TV can be fully turned off & it remembers all your settings for when you next turn it on.
I needed a TV with good connectivity & this had the best selection for my use including 4 HDMI inputs, 1 Optical output & a headphone Jack.
I also like the Stable Sound feature which keeps the sound at a level volume, great for when the adverts come on when watching a movie on FilmFour.
I have a south facing room and the AV635 has AutoView, a sensor setting to adjust the brightness levels on the screen when it gets too sunny.
I use a Xbox360 & a PS3 connected by HDMI & the Toshiba has a Game Mode which makes gaming great, thanks to the brilliant colours.
There is an Advanced option where you can really tweak settings but so far i've been happy with the presets.
-
Although there are Advanced sound settings & it does have DolbyDigital, I find it slightly lacks in bass.

Amazing picture quality; especially good when gaming via PS3, watching DVD's and sport images. Crisp and clear, the television benefits from a self automating backlit system, so no glare or loss of picture quality is evident.
The only lcd tv in it's price range which had more than one scart socket, which suited us well. Numerous other outputs for HDMI, S video, pc, etc. The sound quality is very good, but I am looking into buying a designated speaker set up to enhance watching DVD's and gaming.
-
None that I can really see, the only downside is that it doesn't automatically select a piece of hardware when changing, ie - selecting either Playstation, DVD, Virgin cable. Other than that it's excellent.

Ease of tuning in - it was excellent, first time.
Ease of setting up stand - childs play
Stability
Ease of connectivity to other media - simple and plenty of connection points
We bought another one for my in-laws (both 80+) - they are delighted with it too and find its use very easy. So it works at both ends of the age scale.

Good picture, solid sound. Supports 1080p by downscaling it to 720p. Great TV guide and user-friendly menus in general. Full picture and sound options (game mode et al) for all inputs. Responsive HUD and controls.
-
No 1080 support. Screen about 0.5" shorter than some comparable TVs. No USB music/video player. Takes about 5 seconds to start up. Changes available options confusingly at some PC resolutions.

Classy looking, lovely clear picture, straightforward to use, easy to set up. Overall great looking TV.
-
Long delay when switching on by remote control, sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts before the TV comes on. On occasion sound goes out of sync with the picture, although this is usually when there is a break in the digital signal. Easy to resolve, just switch the set off and back on and all OK. Doesn't happen often but is annoying when it does happen!! However these points would not stop me recommending the TV, overall great value for money!

I bought a DVD player XD-E500KB thinking that they would be compatible, but they are completely alien to each other. There is no automatic switching from tv to dvd even with the hdmi connection
The DVD player is the worst I have ever owned. There is no DVD memory, and if you leave it in Pause mode for a short period of time, it switches off and you have to play the DVD from the very beginning - How bad is that ?

A budget priced HD ready tv that looks good and sounds OK. This particular Tosh is well endowed with ample connectivity options inc. 4 x HMDI + 2 x Scart, component video etc. It also has a usefull USB slot that you can use to display a slide show of pictures from any connected USB device - such as camera memory card readers.
-
Limited enviro-friendly packaging that only gives you very basic setup instructions and advises that if you wish to know about the more advanced picture/sound quality functions then go to their web site and download the manual. There was of course no exact match for this model and it was not obvious which derivitive would be the closest.

Type of Screen

LCD
|
|
Most small flatscreen TVs have LCD screens. Some larger TVs have plasma screens. Some very new TVs have LED screens. Traditional TVs are called Standard or CRT.
|
HD TV

|
HD Ready
|
‘HD Ready’ is a Europe-wide standard designed to made HD technology less confusing. HD Ready TVs must have
• Minimum vertical resolution of 750 pixels (in widescreen format)
• Ability to display 720p and 1080i formats
• An HDMI or Digital Video Interface (DVI interface)
Full HD is a higher standard. Full HD TVs have screen resolutions of 1080p and can output at least 24 frames per second.
Full HD is becoming common, but you won’t see Full HD on normal TV channels for a long time, so it remains optional for many people.
|
Freeview or Freesat Tuner

|
Freeview
|
Freeview is free digital terrestrial TV. FreeSat is a free digital satellite TV service, which gives you HD programming from people like the BBC without having to pay for a subscription to a service like Sky. You need a dish to receive Freesat but not Freeview.
