+ The TomTom Rider v2 just gets on with the job of getting you from wherever you are, to wherever you want to go. The interface is well designed, so much so that an instruction manual isn't necessary. Receiver sensitivity is good, web site support good too. Choice of voices, map colours, and you can route your phone through via bluetooth.

- Hard to view with the sun behind you. No facility to plan a route via a chain of destinations (although I've never found this to be a big deal in practice).

+ Easy to use interface and quick rerouting.
Options of Aviod motorways but not toll roads (e.g. Toll Bridges that save you time and distances get included whilst avoiding those nasty motorways).
Nice map display

- Can be tricky to spell addresses with gloved fingers. Cities have to be selected by country - old EU maps on my Go700 didn't require selecting country first (may be my setup). Horrible safety strap between Ram mount and GPS unit. No lock to prevent undocking from mount (Garmin have much better cradle and lock....but its alot more expensive). No car mount in the standard box. Does not record your track/route (another nice Garmin feature) for later review of trip. status information font too small for reading without glasses (all our eye sight fades). Battery not easily changed

+ Navigation accurracy and ease of use very good. Had the old Rider 1 before and this is a replacement. The only difficulty I have had is getting the bluetooth headset to stay paired and frequently have to re-pair it when the system is first tunrned on, also it seems to drop the bluetooth phone connection but that may be a problem with my phone as I had the same with Rider 1 and this phone. Brilliant piece of kit. Have Garmin in the car but prefer the Tom Tom display and mapping, the only adavnatage that the garmin has is that it does give you the road names as it guides, but I can live without that for the other benefits such as ease with gloves on etc.

- The mount system onto the bike has been a little difficult and I had to have a special mount made for it onto my Honda Pan ST1300 but having had that made for my previous Rider 1 it was an easy swithc.

+ easy to use, easy to fix to bike, plenty of options to personalise the setup. The Tomtom rider does it's primary function well..

- will not communicate with my phone or three others i've tried all supposedly bluetooth, but i must add none are on the tomtom's list of tested and approved phones,THEY are all at least three times the price of mine.
as with sat navs sometimes sends you on a roundabout route or onto single track roads, common sense prevails!

+ Easy to use, clear display. Most importantly, it comes with a bluetooth headset which is a big plus over the Garmin. Mount is easy to to install on your bike.
Overall I think the tom tom has the edge over the garmin and what swings it is the headset.
At the time of purchase Dixons were also the cheapest @ £299

- Not enough functions. I also have a Tom Tom Go 730 which I use in the car and it has a lot more functions for half the price.
The maps have a few errors eg It told me to turn right onto a road which was above me on a bridge! Which again suprised me as I thought the maps were the same as my 730.

- COULD HAVE USED FACILITY ON CARDO HEADSET TO CHARGE ON BIKE IF AWAY FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
CONNECTION TO ADD PHONE CAN BE HIT & MISS DEPENDING ON PHONE. no real bad points though value for money & tom tom home a great feature.
