+ speed of global positioning and the live technology

- very few phones connect using the phone book or messaging however the hands free calling works.

+ Easy to update and Live services

- Full manual only online/ cd. Battery life not that long when used in walking mode.

+ Works straight out of the box. Everything in the menu is fool proof and easy to understand and set up. Live services work very well, especially traffic, very impressed.

- Map status showed it needs a free update, but when connected to the tomtom website it kept timing out so didnt load the map. This is only a small point as the map it comes with is fine, its just annoying thats its not the most up to date it could be.

- no mp3 player or fm transmitter

+ Good looks and size. Intuitive menus so need to refer to the instructions to get it working.

- Has a habit of not always linking to the blue tooth mobile. My older TomTom also turned itself off when on the car mount and powered from the car's power supply - the 740 stays live all the time, so it is easy to forget to turn it off unless it is always removed from the holder.
Not unique to TomTom, but there is no optional mount with a longer distance from screen - needing to touch the screen in an MVV is a problem.
Again not a TomTom problem, but the new maps do seem to make more use of minor roads when selecting quickest route - often taking the driver through quiet villages where the residents are now concerned about more traffic using their roads!!!
Minor problems and not unique to TomTOm - overall a great sat nav.

+ Latest features of this product (which was an upgrade from an older Tom Tom) proved very good with lane directions at junctions and intelegent planning of routes. So far this product has delivered what it says on the box!

- It was not clear how or when to get the latest map upgrade which was free with the purchase of the product.Once i found it, i got an up to date map free of charge so I can navigate with confidence

+ clear voice, like google - because it can find places when im not sure of address or postcode.
ive not been any where to test the camera waring system.

- the lanes indicator doesn't come up on the main screen, like it does on some tomtom systems.

and would be nice to have sound like bleeping to let you know you are on the turn

+ It does as stated and with the Live have allready saved time delay from traffic holdup
Phone handfree is also very good and easy to recieve calls with one touch of the screen
I avoid sending calls on the move.

- I drive a C-max a small MPV windsceen mounting is out of arms reach unless mounted up by the rear view mirror. ( all vans etc must be similar.)
I had to purchase seperatly a dash board mounting disc.

+ easily the best satnav yet, great for finding local restaurants etc with google search, perfect as a handsfree phone too.

- no MP3 player prevoius model 730 had MP3 / mapping can be slow (playing catch up with where you actually are) sometimes unit believes you are in a field and not on the road.

+ Excellant navigation, very easy to use. Spoken road names a real bonus

- Has switched itself off on 2 occasions. But very minor point as when it boots itself back up it picks up the navigation again
