My third Tomtom nothing wrong with the older ones just donated them to family so I could treat myself to the 520t The traffic lead is a must route planning seems quicker, the ability to have it as an mp3 player inbetween instructions a nice idea. Purchase the remote control it's a must so much easier to navigate the menu's while driving or having a passenger do it for you without sitting hunched over biting the dash stabbing at the screen.
-
FM transmitter requires almost constant adjusment of frequency in citys or built up areas to stop interference, The hands free feature although nice didn't seem to want to work reliably enough to warrant me putting my bluetooth earpiece in the glovebox for good.
these in all honesty are the only niggles I have found so far everything else works a treat tomtom may possibly update the software to improve things Remote control not included.
either way I'm happy with my GO 520 T

TMC is next to useless in the UK which is a shame as this was the main reason for upgrading from my previous sat nav. Most of the time the signal cannot be picked up so traffic info is not downloaded. The FM ariel is fitted as per instructions, and the windscreen has no coating to interupt the signal. But 95% of the time the signal is too weak to be picked up. The one occasion an incident was reported it stated a 3 hour delay on the M4 and failed to reroute us. As it turned out there was indeed a narrowing of lanes - but no hold up at all.
The speed limits on many roads are also incorrect so there are constant warnings of breaking the speed limit when you are not doing so.
Many of the default points of interest are only in Scotland.
And who's idea of a restaurant is McDonalds? How about a few more non junk food eateries?

Does everything it says on the tin. Can't complain. Clear screen, audible diections, accurate mapping (ensure you install TomTom Home and update your maps before you use it.) The ability to send in map corrections to TomTom is a good feature. It's a nice bit of kit, and well supported in updates and the amount of people out there with one.
-
Not really any of substance. Updating the software can take a little while, as can configuring the options to your liking (but once you've done that, you don't need to do it again.) Two gripes: it doesn't come with a carry-case or protective pouch, and you have to subscribe to TomTom to get the best traffic update feature. (But you can also use the free one).

lack of memory - go for either 720 or 920, lack of active mount with purchase, although some 3rd party mounts are available elsewhere seperately - every time you fit in car you have to fiddle around with wires in the bottom of the unit, but dont let that put you off!!!!!!

The display is clear and easy to read and the menus are simple to follow. The inbuilt speaker is powerful enough for most traffic conditions and the voice chosen was clear and easily understood. My initial reservations regarding the robustness of the screen mount proved unfounded and it remains firmly attached to the windscreen despite a lot of mounting and unmounting of the TomTom 520. In general I have found the TomTom to be clear, easy to use and robust.
-
The accuracy of the mapping leaves a little to be desired; particularly regarding road junction layout and priorities. Having now used the TomTom over several weeks it will often not indicate that, for example, there is a "T"-junction ahead - rather mapping it as a continuous "right of way" route - lulling the driver into a false sense of security and requiring a lot of hard braking! Even the junction at the end of my road at home would, if I followed the instructions given, leave me carrying out two 180 degree turns in about 3 metres! This is NOT good... I would also have hoped that the mapping corrections TomTom encourage us to give, such as the examples I have just given, would have been actioned within a reasonable length of time: only the correction I gave first (three months ago) preventing others from driving a non-existent road, taking them over the pavement(!) has so far been corrected.
One other very irritating point. I bought a 4Gb memory card for the TomTom expecting the inbuilt music player to find the MP3s I carefully loaded on the card. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be able to play music except from an external player (iPod) or from the internal memory which is insufficient to store anything other than a few tracks. Why can't I navigate to the SD card?? Very disappointed with that.

Quite intuitive and easy to use.
Although it needed additional software (about 30 pounds), the real time traffic updates via mobile phone and the auto re-routing is particularly useful on my busy commute, and saves the need for RDS traffic announcement intrusions on the car stereo. It seems to have been quite accurate too - even finding routes that I hadn't previously thought were particular fast. Once set up, it connects automatically to the phone and, so far, doesn't seem to cost very much on my T-Mobile pay-as-you-go tariff.
The estimated time of arrival is particularly accurate - which is clever as I tend to drive at only about 60 mph on busy motorways, so I assume it is automatically adjusting to my driving style?
-
I find the screen size to be a little small (compared to the built in Sat Nav on my previous 2002 Nissan Primera!) - but I realise that it is bigger than many other portable Sat Navs.
Setting up the PC software was troublesome at first (from the CD). In the end I dowloaded S/W off the website and that works fine now.
I particularly like the ability to control the device from the PC - so you can check routes, times, etc. using a PC keyboard and mouse, rather than the touch-screen.

Picks up satellite position quickly, allows alternative route to be viewed, estimated time of arrival for pre planning. rerouting on diversion quick response with new directions. Voice instructions worked better than I expected, responded well to a broad Glasgow accent.Tom Tom Home worked well with new map update download.

TMC aerial should be integrated into the casing as too much wiring on windsreen, don't see the point of alternates to pointer on head up display. Carry case should be capable of storing all cabling & attachments rather than just the 520T itself.

Easy to use except mapshare, which is supposed to be the big selling point of the GO x20 series! It's still better than the in-car shipped Sat Nav I had with a previous vehicle. Like the bluetooth handsfree kit - it found my phone and connected straight away - but it is very noisy and sometimes hard for the other party to hear me (maybe my car or phone). Love the Connect-to-PC-before-you-go and plan the route.
-
Update software not as good as expected from the hype. Not easy to send updates of map changes spotted and not many (any, actually!) received. many inaccurate/missing roads and speed limits noticed for camera alerts - often 60mph shown where it is 50mph and told me a camera set at 30 mph was nearby on a Motorway (M5, Bristol), which was probably on a road under the M5 bridge!!! Traffic alerts OK, but saying "situatio changed" does not tell you if it's got better or worse.
