1 portion of chips takes 45 mins to cook, chips don't get well covered in oil even when you put well under 1kg of chips in (leaflet says 1kg of chips is the max you can put), so the edges get burnt. Chips are floppy even when you dry them extremely well before "frying". Taste more like "cooked" than "fried" if you know what I mean, so if you like the traditional taste of chips, I would not recommend the product. Was thinking of saving money buying less oil, but nowhere was it mentioned in the product description that it takes 45 mins for one portion! You only find out about it when you buy and open the product. Forget about it if you want to feed more than 3 people! Or if you want to prepare all your dinner it in (like chiucken and chips for example). I regret having spent so much money on it and hate using it because of the amount of time it takes.

Produces good quality chips; as each batch has a dollop of oil, flavourings can be added without affecting oil for next batch; this device is very much safer than a traditional chip fryer with litres of very hot oil; although it gets quite hot, its nowhere near as hot as a normal fryer and cools quickly when finished; can be used to cook other foods, stir fry veg is good; some cooking requires no oil at all; main parts that touch food can be removed and cleaned in dishwasher. Doesn't easily burn food if forgotten, like normal fryer would, though this is because its slower.
-
Alarm at end of timer is too quiet; can break up certain battered food like fish, that normal fryer can cook OK; cooking chips from fresh takes quite a time (40 mins) but I don't find this a problem, just start it up and let it go while you get on with other stuff; cannot cook as much food as you would imagine from size of cooking bowl, as the food has to be moved around by the revolving blade, which means if you overfill some food can get stuck around top edge, though easily flicked back in with lid open.

The Idea behind the Actifry is basic but fairly good. It is well made and feels fairly robust. The Actifry cooks great chips that DO yes DO taste like a fried chip but whit only a lot less oil. I have tried One of the dishes from the bookand it was good. IT is difficult to determine value for money but if I still have it in a couple of years time it will be good value.
N.B. Thicher chips work better.

It cooks things with very little oil, creating low-fat meals, which is very good.

It's not easy to mix things because the paddle gets in the way. Also, it's not easy to stir things where the lid attaches to the body of the machine, it gets in the way.

low fat , ideal for chips, can cook steak too but you need to cut it into strips..
chips take a while 30-40 mins, steak in 1cm thick strips 4cm long take 10mins, sliced mushrooms take 5 mins..
-
timer does not switch machine off, also timer alarm is barely audible, this is dangerous... Do not touch top it gets extremely hot. Machine is very noisy, like having a force 9 gale in the kitchen.. As it takes a while to cook chips it can be costly, much more so than cooking with fat in a chip pan over gas.
You need to open now and then to move chips around as then tend to collect in a pile, thus not cooking correctly

Timer does not actually stop the machine and also the warning buzzer is not loud enough
Very worried when we saw a report that over 200 of these machines have caught alight or smoked.
Now very worried about walking away and leaving it cooking, which was one of the reasons we bought it ??????
Also one of the plastic lugs broke on our first one of these, they are not very strong. We are senior citizens, not vandals and treated it with respect but it still broke. This one is a replacement, although it we had heard about others catching fire before we had requested a replacement we would probably have requested a refund.
We think that the manufacturers ought to recall all those sold and replace them with machines that are safer and and not in danger of cathing alight.

It produces good quality chips/wedges and friends and family have been impressed with my home made vegetable crisps - almost as good as very expensive bought variety. The recipes that I have tried so far from the book have been easy to follow and very tasty.
-
You really do have to make sure that the vegetables for "frying" ie potatoes, are very well soaked and extremely dry before putting them in the machine, in order to get the best result. The timer alarm sound at the end of the cooking time is completely inadequate - very quiet, almost inaudable in fact; if I am not standing close to the machine or if the extractor fan for my oven is on, I am unable to hear it.

Timer gives a very faint bleep at the end of the set time - not audible unless you are nearby. The timer stops registering after the set time has been reached so if you miss the end point bleeps you may be uncertain how many extra minutes of cooking have taken place unless you took care to note your original start time.

We don't eat chips constantly, but it's good to feel that it's a healthy option when we do. Our first batch wasn't great, but the flavour depends on the type of potato and the oil used, so you can experiment to find what you like. The fryer is really easy to use and clean and although it looked huge, it fits in the same place in the cupboard as the old deep-fat fryer.

When cooking fatty foods ie sausages the hollow paddle gets clogged with fat so if not cleaned at the time it solidifies into a glutenous goo. Too many nooks and crannies for food to get lodged in. I would make the paddle out of solid plastic. I've also found the handle area difficult to clean as it is not removable.

no chip fat smell ,i like the chips but my husband doesnt.
easy to clean.
will try and cook something else see how it fairs.
-
it does not make chips like a fat fryer does, they are not as soft and as tasty.
i dont mind them but my husband refuses to eat them and i have only used it twice.
also has a funny smell when first new, which i understand goes after using for a few times, might not get to find that out for myself !.
rather bulky to store in a cupboard (as you need to get it out to use)

Easy to clean. Less oil used in cooking - No oil required with things like sausages and frozen chips for frying. No splatter of oil like you would get when frying sausages in a frying pan so cleaner to use. Haven't used it to its full advantage yet. Would definitely recommend giving it a try.
-
Timer quiet and unit does not switch off automatically at the end of cooking time. Quite noisy when in use. Also a bit bulky to store. Sometimes you have to watch the food early on in the cooking process and move it around manually as it seems as though it starts to pile up in one area - this usually clears quite quickly as the foods cooks and then you can leave it. I have not had the confidence yet to leave it to see if it would clear itself, it may well do. A bit pricey but if you can afford it well worth it.

Healthy way to enjoy so called 'unhealthy' food.Since I've had the product, I have used it on average at least 4 times a week.
-
Rather bulky, so you do need a certain amount of space.

It cooks great tasting, healthier than fried food as it only uses a very small amount of oil. Its easy to wash the removable items. It is so much safer than traditional fryers and chips taste so much better than oven chips. We use this 3 or 4 times a week, cooking a variety of things, and although I was worried about the size of it and amount it could cook, we have found its a good size for 2 adults and 1 hungry teenager!
-
It does take up alot of space and it would be better if the timer was louder and stopped the cooking.
Some of the grey plastic on the inside has started to discolour after one month of usage.

To compare the Tefal Actifry with a deep fat fryer, one would expect the Tefal to be wanting and the traditional deep fat fryer to win hands down, but that is not the case. The Tefal works very well and does produce good cooking results using miminal oil. Cannot express how good it is really.

The 1 Kg capacity is only just big enough.
The LCD display should be larger a tilted towards the user.

As I have used the product only 3 times so far I cannot judge on too many aspects. The chips were great! I have also cooked lamb chops and they were fine. Cleaning OK but see below. This product was recommended to me by my cousin who lives in France as she thinks it excellent. I have found it very easy to use.
-
Although I have only given 8 points for cleaning, that is because I haven't had to clean it much so far!!! After its first and second uses, I merely wiped round the cooking pan with a kitchen roll whilst the appliance was still warm. After the third I dismantled the pan and paddle and washed them by hand, but I haven't yet put anything through the dishwasher - I am sure they will be fine, but this is the reason I have included this under 'bad' points and not 'good' - I don't think I have had the fryer long enough to judge. I think the appliance is a little expensive, but I suppose you have to pay for quality!

Makes chips with only a spoonfull of oil. Can also be used to fry other things. Easy to clean.

Chips take a long time, up to 40mins, the preparation also is time consuming. The machine is large and noisy. The bleeper is too quiet.
