Performs very well at all focal lengths. Resolution, image stabilisation, contrast and colour balance are well up to expectations for this class of lens. Despite some comments elsewhere the auto focus performed without hesitation under all but the severest conditions
-
Whilst the lens handles well the zoom lock switch is awkward in use and could be improved bearing in mind the tendency to zoom 'droop' common to all extended range lenses of this type

Above rating is based on very limited useage so far as I'm waiting for my holiday to really put it through its paces. Heavier than the 100 ~300 lens I had before but this outweighs having to swap between the 18~55 and the 100~300. I will get used to it, I guess. So far, it seems to produce worthwhile images & the VC will help very much especially at the long end.
-
Weight, compared with what I'm used to.
I need to get used to the lens sliding 'open' when pointing it down, & get used to locking it when I'm not using it. Large sized filters (72mm) needed which has added to the cost.

I wanted an all in one lens as I'm going to Africa soon and didn't want to be changing lenses all the time. The Tamron certainly does want I need it to do. I've read more professional reviews concerned with image quality, particulalry at the extremes of focal length, but have to say that hasn't been a concern to a keen amateur.
-
The lens struggles a little to focus at its extremes, but this is a minor nigggle as I quite like manual focusing!

One single lens to cover the full range without permanently switching from short to long distance lenses. My pevious 18-55mm and 50-210mm lenses are now useless. The quality of the optics is excellent.
-
It is not a major point but I had to get used to it, the zoom needs to be turned the reverse way compared to all my other lenses.

Great alround performance for a single lens! Awesome zoom range. Solid (but slightly loose) build. Free hood (wake up Canon!). Recommended!
-
Zoom lock is good but a little fiddly if you don't have nails! Zoom stiffens about half way due to lens weight (this is overcome with the aid of gravity!!). Slightly loose focus ring doesn't help macro shooting.

Excellent all in one lens, from wide angle to zoom in tight without changing lenses.
The VC control is great - needed when you zoom as it enables you to take more stable pictures without the use of a tripod.

The lens hood can stay in place while removing and replacing the lens cap.

I now only have to take the one lens when i go abroad which cuts down the weight on your hand luggage as its not as heavy as canon own products now you can't take a camera bag as well as hand luggage and you only get 5 kilo on holiday company flights unlike easyjet

Great range
Best in class optics
Reasonable macro capability
Perfect walkaround/travel lens (especially if changing lenses is not possible/practical)
Relatively light weight (as compared to carying many lenses and also a little lighter that other similar lenses)
-
Being a superzoom it suffers from CA at extremes of zoom range - but this is better that most of lenses of this range.
Build quality is a little plasticy but still solid
Zoom ring catches a little at around 50mm

This is an absolute cracker. I am comparing it with a Canon 70-200 f4 L IS USM and there is virtually no difference in quality. There is very slight colour fringing at the corners at 100% magnification. The central area of the frame is just as sharp as the Canon. I bought it as a holiday lens and now I am using it for everything, I just can't take it off. Brilliant!
