Sony Ericsson W960i Candy Bar Touchscreen 3G mobile phone handset reviews and tariffs

+ This phone overall is a good phone in keeping with all sony ericsson phones. The sound is excellant and video and camera is still superb even though it is only 3.2 megapixels. The touch screen is very sensative so no need to "stab" it for it to work.

- Battery life is terrible. With use of games or music the battery only lasts a day or two. The OS is very slow in switching between programs. It your are in a hurry you will get frustrated as it sometimes seem to take around 5-8 secs to get anyting to open up. Looks are good apart from the stupid white strip on the side.

+ Large touchscreen is very accurate even when using fingers, some good features such as editable shortcuts, button keypad rather tha touchscreen keypad is a major bonus, walkman software and features are excellent.

- text input doesnt have option to "insert new word" when typing, scroll wheel is located on left hand side of phone which makes it hard to access easily for right handed texters, layout of messages isnt ideal- hard to navigate between inbox, outbox and drafts etc.

+ Good music capabilities. However it lacks the ability to edit MP3 tags and file names on the phone. Web browsing and networking is very nicely set up.

- Painfully slow operation, lacks a directional pad, poor predictive text. A VPN client that can take manual settings would be handy.

+ The 8 gig hardware is quite useful for keeping music,video files or pictures on it.The big screen also useful not to mention the phones appearance.I bought it because all my mates has the N95 and i did not want to join them.

- It is quite hard to navigate between menus although the pen is a big help when browsing in the phone.The software also could be faster.Overall i quite enjoy the phone, it has lots of features but it takes time to get used to it.

+ good for listening to music and searchng the web

- Battery drains out very easily when it is designed for talking, listening to muic and searching the internet. If you want to watch a movie you would most probably have charge half way through or at the end...So what to being portable. The touch screen is very slow at detecting motion. There is a few seconds of delay after it has been touched due to the glass covering.

+ Looks nice in pictures, The whole touch screen concept is nice. It has a good size screen, with good display.

- Very difficult to use. It is bulky. It looks alot nicer in pictures than it does in real life. It scratches easily and sometimes doesnt charge properly.

- battery life does not seem to have been addapted to the design of the phone.

+ The walkman part is very good and easy to use, the sync software also updates music much faster and more reliably than my previous W810i. Web browsing on Wi-Fi is also much better than UMTS/GPRS.

- Symbian is slightly unintuitive, e.g. adding words to the dictionary.
The camera is slow and a little blurry if the phone isn't in good light and held firmly.

+ The choice of being able to use the keypad or the touchscreen 2 do whatever you want on the phone. I also like the how the play and skip buttons come to life when u activate the walkman.

- My phone was reacting very slow after it restarted itself for a software update

+ Sound Quality, Memory Capacity, Ease of use for menus, texting, calls, calender...

- Jog wheel is inappropriate and in the wrong place. Walkman button never gets used.

+ There are no really good points to mention. Sound quality is ok

- Everything. Navigation is clunky, the screen is poor, software clunky, battery life awful, setting up the e-mail was a nightmare and not at all straight forward as 'Stuff' magazine suggested. Just one game and limited ring tone selection and the touch screen is rubbish, you have to keep stabbing at the screen with the plastic pointer thing, and you have to keep the keypad lock on at all times.

+ Great design, multiple input options, Walkman and sound quality is very good. Wifi has come in very handy

- ARGH!!! The jog wheel! Who on earth put it on that side?? Makes txting SO hard you wouldn't believe.Navigation is always slow, and replying to a txt is like watching a flicker book of every application that has run on your phonne.

+ this phone has everything, there is soooo much 3rd party applications avaliable out there , the walkman on this found sounds better then the ipod touch and mini that my best has

+ It's Hard to find anything wrong with the W960i, I've has Sony Ericsson's for a while now and find the touch screen compliments the overall experience of a fone i thought would be really complicated to use.
To be able to scroll through my music was so easy, and the sound quality was the usual SE good quality.

+ Memory, 8GB is more than enough for all my favourite music to be stored.
Another good feature is the ability to play MP4 video files, watching TV on the very good quality screen is a useful feature in boring situations.
Applications, Microsoft Word and Excel were a nice feature.
This phone combines work and play perfectly in one package where other phones sometimes forget about one and concentrate on the other.

- Can sometimes click wrong button on touch screen if using fingers instead of stylus.
Sometimes slow to open programs, usually just after start-up.

+ Looks great,has all features available in comparable models.

- I think the keypad is slightly difficult to use as the walkman contols can be inevitably activated while using the touch screen/or while using other keys..which can be quite frustrating.The controls and sybian technology need a bit of getting used to.

+ overall love the phone. The battery cover is a little flimsy... if they made that more solid so it doesnt creek when you type a message with the keypad then it would be much better.

- Seems to creek when typing on keypad... sound comes from battery cover. Little flimsy.

+ Quality product and good looks. Symbian is superb, with loads of great applications/games.

- Can take an age to open applications. Certain applications (WLAN in particular) are power hungry and you have to go into task manager to completely shut application down.

+ The W960i is packed full of features, which make it a good all-rounder. The camera, web, messaging & connectivitiy are all above average in terms of technical specification and as part of the Walkman range; this phone has an excellent 8GB memory and music features, which form the centerpiece of this model.

- Handwriting recognition is tricky to learn at first and having to hold the phone with both hands can prove awkward; not only when using the stylus, but also the scrolling wheel on the side of the phone. Battery life is a major problem for people on the go - lasting two days if you're lucky - take your charger with you!

+ its really easy and fun to use, loads of really cool features and much faster than any nokia i'v tried.
im currently travelling round europe and it is excellent for booking hostels and checking train times

- the stand-by life of the battery is quite good but listening to music or surfing the internet (which is also pretty good) seems to drain it quite quickly, especially if doing both together

+ Touch-screen, big hard-drive, easily synchronised with PC, and easy to use. Everything you could want in a smartphone and more.

- Can be a bit slow responding, but not annoyingly so.

- Only bad point i can think of is when you add a word to the dictionary when texting it sometimes cancles the txt and you have to start from the begging.. so not rele a biggie!

+ A very capable and sound smart phone with great music capabilities and good specs. UIQ3 OS works a dream

- The UI - at times it is very slow (though has improved with latest firmware) and is not very intuitive to, say, the IPhone.

Battery life is really good compared to features, can get the same as my K810i. Bundled software isn't too bad. Software available for uiq3 OS.

- Navigation, no joystick. Original firmware is slow and has some bugs, best to upgrade it via included software.

+ Takes time to get used to it but the PDA type input is handy. Always used sony walkman phones to listen to music and this one seems to have superb battery life. Nice display makes it easy to access the web and navigate too.

- Still haven't worked out how to add shortcuts so it gets a bit tedious when I want to make a call and have to go through the menu. That might just be me being a tool though. One annoying thing is how quickly the screen locks.

- the editing function for the navigation keys is set so that you cannot really set the shortcuts that you need. the camera funtion is basic and not as good as the k800i with quick access shortscuts for the photos. also the software is to slow ie symbian.
