Sony Bravia KDL-46W5500 Reviews: Bravia, 46" Screen LCD Full HD 1080p TV

+ Sony is the top brand name for me very good design

+ Saves space, good size to weight ratio. excellent picture with wide viewing angle.

- large cabling bundle. (will be reduced when sky+ HD is fitted)

+ Fantastic 1080p picture. Standard definition looks good too. Vibrant colours. Very black blacks. Matt finish reduces reflections from other light sources. At just over £1000 for a 46inch Sony LCD with Bravia 3 engine technology is pretty good value.

- Basic looking design. You'll probably want to hook it up to a surround sound system.

+ Picture, sound is ok, I like it very much, with HD sky box the picture is fantastic.

- Can not play movies on USB.

- Only thing I can say is the Standard Definition most definitely looks blurry. Could do with a decent integrated upscaler to dance over this.....

- Port configuration split between side of set and rear. It is unsightly from the side of the set if you want to use all the HDMI ports.

+ Simple to use, looks good (except teh clear plastic bit but that's a persnal choice), great picture but with the usual upscale fron SD issues. Great HD picture. It's shown up my Humax PVRs quality so I'm havin g to upgrade to Freesat to get more HD content.

+ Aside from the obvious superb quality when watching Blue Rays, what does impress is the standard deff picture from normal telly.

- If I had to be picky then I'd say the type of plastic used for the frame and base is a real nightmare to keep clean. You can never get the dust off....!

+ Excellent image quality (ie resolution, brightness, contrast) on HD and also very good on non-HD. Better than all other high resolution TV sets which I've seen displaying non-HD material, which often look worse than low resolution TV sets. The colours, including skin colours, are spot-on. The connections are simple and the controls easy to use. The rotating stand is quite useful too. Moving images (eg watching soccer on Sky HD) are good.

- None. I only give an 8/10 for sound because I would reserve 10 for the quality of sound you'd expect from a full separate surround-sound system, so maybe I'm being a bit harsh. Clearly you can't expect that on a TV. The sounds is as good as I would expect from a TV.

- The only item I would consider that Sony review is the Guide, it takes awhile to update and does not always list all the items.

- Built quality plastics of this model not as good as older models.I had a KDLV model which was better built.Sony seem had cut corners to remain competitive at this model range.Sound still not its strong feature.

+ Great picture, easy to set up and if you have a Sony Blu-Ray and Home Cinema system they work brilliantly together.

- Pretty poor sound quality from the built-in speakers. For decent sound, invest in a proper AV receiver (preferably Sony). Network widgets are a useless gimmick but you can play your music collection over DLNA reasonably well.

+ So far so good. A great upgrade from my original Bravia. Changing settings is incredibly easy with the 'Home' button on the remote giving access to the x bar menu. Sound is pretty good and powerful, something my old Bravia lacked. Most important is top quality picture, contrast a big set up and acceptable.

- TV surround not that exciting, thought it'd at least have an illuminated 'Sony'! Only other minor gripe is the remote is fairly dull in design.

- DLNA video streaming only supports a limited number of formats (AVHCD, MPEG2) i.e not avi, mkv etc.

+ Great picture out of the box, no need to fiddle with the settings, just use the scenes.

- Motionflow is hit and miss with some settings but just put it on low and all is fine.

- No bad points, feel the free view aspect of it could be slicker

+ it has some good features and quality of picture is good once you get all the settings right, which is after playing around for a little while. The best thing about it is watching movies for me it makes a big difference
