+ GOOD HOB, NICE TO LOOK AT . I REALLY LIKE THE SOLIDITY OF THE DOORS AND THE WAY THEY SHUT.

- THE INSTRUCTION BOOKLET IS VERY FLIMSY AND NOT VERY CLEAR. THE COOKER KNOBS GET VERY HOT WHEN THE GRILL DOOR IS OPEN AND IT IS IN USE. I AM HAVING SOME DIFFICULTY IN UNDERSTANDING THE GRILL FUNCTIONS AS SOMETIMES IT SEEMS NOT TO WORK WHEN THE DOOR IS SHUT. THE INSTRUCTIONS AREN'T MUCH USE ON THIS.

+ It, obviously, looks fantastic. The array of rings on the hob caters for virtually every occasion, although I haven't tried poaching a salmon (don't eat seafood) or seeing if there's enough heat for a stir-fry (don't have gas) to prove that statement. It looks fantastic, though. Strong beep on timer. A pleasingly snug fit for a 60cm cooker slot. It looks fantastic.

- Twiddly knobs are a bit vague for hob and oven control. Measly number of oven shelves included means you have to swap from upper to lower oven more often than in other, more generous models. It's almost too beautiful to use.

+ A good cooker, with limitations listed below.

- In use, the entire body of the cooker gets very hot, not good if you have small children.
Instruction book is limited and appears to be a direct translation form German, with no account taken of how we would express things in English.
The grill is slow to warm and requires two controls to make it work.

Conventional ovens heat from the bottom so the top of the oven will be slightly hotter than the bottom. This is useful when you’re cooking lots of different dishes at a time. However, they do take a little longer than fan ovens to heat up. Fan ovens circulate the air so that you get an even temperature throughout the oven. They are quicker to heat up which means they save on energy and time. Multifunction ovens give you the flexibility to use different methods of cooking. They usually have both fan and conventional settings as well as pizza settings that will only cook from the bottom, giving you a crispy pizza, or top-only cooking that is very useful for browning.

Self-cleaning ovens can come with catalytic liners or pyrolytic programmes. Calalytic liners are the bumpy surfaces which line the inside walls of the oven. They absorb the food and grease and break it down so that the oven is easier to clean. Pyrolytic programmes run for a couple of hours and burn off all the grime in your oven at temperatures up to 500°C. As it gets so hot, the oven door usually locks so that all you need to do is sweep up the ash that’s left over at the end.
