+ Simple to use, taught my friend who is no techy in 5 mins she is also 70 years old, very user friendly.

- Time recorder clock adjusts it self a further hour after setting for summer time so any long term recordings are missed if you do not know this. On start up to record sometime three minutes are missed at the start!

+ It is so easy to use just press the red button for instant record, or use the programme guide to set what you want taping, you can tape your programmes for that day and up to 8 days in advance it's very clever. I am so pleased with it i have had it now for 5 months and i would recommend it. My son-in-law set it up for me as i don't understand the electrics side, like a lot of women, then i was away taping all my programmes. It is like sky without the expense.

- The only down side is that you can tape two at the same time but you have to watch one

+ Very user friendly and the twin tuner comes in very handy.Has been very handy for storing several episodes of my one year old daughters favourite kids programmes.

- Has frozen up once and failed to record and have had a couple of instances when it has failed to respond to remote.Have had to switch off and on at mains on these occasions.Not sure if these probs are caused by signal fluctuations.

+ Does what it says on the box. Very easy recording and playback. Reliable.

- Very occasionally, the recorder freezes and has to be restarted by pulling the plug (however, this doesn't erase recordings).

- it doesn't rewind live tv, only pauses, and it freezes the screen a lot fo the time.

- The pause feature takes 3-5 seconds to actually pause. I am used to an immediate pause on my Sky + box.

+ Twin tuner and ability to record two programmes at the same time.

- Recording firmware - adds additional timers for unrequired programmes which cause conflicts and thus required programmes are not recorded. Also sometimes stops recording for no clear reason and has locked up for more than an hour several times. It is going to be returned once we have decided on an alternative.

+ Much easier to use than a VCR and tapes.

- As with many electronic goods, the instruction manual is poorly written: particularly, it says that "it is possible to record two events AND watch two programmes at the same time". It should read "OR". I tried to do "AND" on one occasion; the machine froze and would not function. This caused me to ring Sharp, who helped me to unfreeze it. I learned, however, that their replacement policy during the guarantee period provides only a reconditioned model in place of the faulty item. I would not have been happy to swap my 3-week-old machine for a reconditioned one that might have been misused elsewhere for 51 weeks.

+ Easy to set up, twin tuners make recording and watching easy to understand, simple interfaces on menus etc.

- Can't retune the box without the remote, box is pretty much useless without the remote actually so if your remote dies you're in a bit of a fix using it.

- I've had nothing but trouble wit it - doesn't work right, several problems, spoken to Sharp, not yet working properly. Second one of these I've had - first one had to go back after two months.
