Beautiful design, great picture with lots of clarity and crystal clear images and colours all for a very competitive price. Something of this size and this range of options costs at least 30% more from other manufacturers.
-
Not convinced by how fast the screen refreshes. Some motion blur and odd effects when things move quickly across the screen. To be honest, I can't tell if this is me not knowing how to set the TV up properly (in which case the instructions aren't clear!) or it just doesn't refresh at the high rate it claims to, which I'm sure can't be the case either. So, great picture most of the time but not great all of the time. Good enough for me, to be fair.

Easy set up including links to old recorders etc. Simple and up and running in minutes. Great picture and sound and for everyday TV great buy.
-
Some of the instructions for special adjustments/features written in gobledeegook. Still cannot get photos to show from a USB. Some of the menus need a degree in 'Sharpology' to understand but if you just want to watch TV you do not need them. Attracts dust to high gloss finishes and seems impossible to clean screen without smearing. Needs a good antistatic cleaner but have not found one yet.

Picture quality is very good and seems to improve with use.
The set is very well designed and certainly looks the part, the menu's are well laid out and are easy to navigate and the remote is easy to use.
Overall quite pleased with this purchase and at very competetive price too.
-
The sound quality although clear lacks bass and is a bit tinny, but sorted that with a 2.1 speaker system.
Has gone out of sync on a few occasions especially when using headphones, but that could just be a minor teething problem.

Excellent picture quality (finally able to appreciate my ps3 properly). Sound quality ok but with a big tv you've gotta have home cinema too so not an issue for me. Loads of ports to connect everything easily. Looked around for ages finally bit the bullet and ordered the sharp tv, great purchase recommended to friends and family already before it sells out!

easy to set up if you have already used Sharp TV products.
Very nice stylling - screen has a very slim border around it so you are mainly looking at the screen and not a big black frame.
It swivels a little bit so you can get the best viewing angle.
HD picture using HDMI is stunning.
Great price for this set from Sharp Affinity scheme.
Excellent 5 year warranty on big TVs.
-
speakers aren't great. Needs a bit more bass and not very clear if you use low volume levels.
SD picture is not as good as I thought it would be from reading reviews (although it is pretty good).
AV settings need to be tweaked a bit, especially "optimum picture control" which adjusts screen brightness according to ambient lighting. Ended up switching it off.

Screen Size in Inches

42

Type of Screen

Most small flatscreen TVs have LCD screens. Some larger TVs have plasma screens. Some very new TVs have LED screens. Traditional TVs are called Standard or CRT.
HD TV

Full HD 1080p
‘HD Ready’ is a Europe-wide standard designed to made HD technology less confusing. HD Ready TVs must have
• Minimum vertical resolution of 750 pixels (in widescreen format)
• Ability to display 720p and 1080i formats
• An HDMI or Digital Video Interface (DVI interface)
Full HD is a higher standard. Full HD TVs have screen resolutions of 1080p and can output at least 24 frames per second.
Full HD is becoming common, but you won’t see Full HD on normal TV channels for a long time, so it remains optional for many people.
Freeview or Freesat Tuner

Freeview
Freeview is free digital terrestrial TV. FreeSat is a free digital satellite TV service, which gives you HD programming from people like the BBC without having to pay for a subscription to a service like Sky. You need a dish to receive Freesat but not Freeview.

Number of Scart Interfaces

2
Scart sockets are places where you can connect other devices to your TV. If you already have a DVD player, a VCR and a Playstation you might want to make sure your new TV has enough Scart interfaces so you don’t have to keep crawling round the back of the TV.
Frequency (Hz)

100
A TV’s frequency is how often the picture is updated per second, and is measured in Hertz (Hz). A higher frequency, such as 100 Hz, means that a TV is more likely to show fast-moving images with high detail.

50000
This figure is designed to tell you how much difference there is between dark and light colours on the TV. It is quoted as a ratio, between the brightest white and the darkest black. 500:1 means the brightest white is 500 times more bright than the darkest black. Plasma screens have historically boasted better contrast ratios than LCD screens.
Screen Resolution (pixels)

1080p
The number of pixels the screen has. The more you have, the more detail the screen can display, given a high quality source.
