Slim looking visual appearance is very pleasing. Picture quality/clarity is excellent. Rotate able stand is highly useable. The advantage of being LCD rather then plasma is highly advantageous namely half the power consumption (lower bills) and less heat being generated. There is lot of added features with this particular 8 series model. There is limited internet facility, being able to play media straight from USB or straight from your desk top/laptop pc is highly advantageous.
You can connect to the internet ether by ethernet or by using wireless usb dongle.
-
Sound quality is poor without proper surround equipment.
Screen seems to act lot of dust, when compared to old CRT television, you are for ever more cleaning the screen.
Lacks full internet capability – hopefully this may be available in the near future.
Wireless capability requires expensive special Samsung wireless dongle.

Really impressed with the Samsung, I spent a great deal of time searching different manufacturers of LCD & Plasma TV's,and the LCD that really stood out from the croud was with the Samsung 8 series LE40A856 40", time well spent.
The design, slimness, & picture quality are top notch.
Set up was a breeze.

The design is superb and the set looks very impressive even when it is switched off. We have wall mounted the set and it takes little or no space (though it is in a big room which makes a difference). We like the different settings for sport, entertainment & films. The energy saving option is also very useful (though we have not assessed how effective this is yet). Installation and setting up was straightforward (though 2 people are needed for installation if you are wall mounting it).

superb picture quality on films, sports and HD pictures, looks fantastic when hung on the wall. Have had no problems with this set at all.
P.S. I didn't rate the sound as I run it through a surround sound system

Narrow surround looks neater. Picture is really good, crisp with good contrast. Slimmer than most so sits well back on stand and doesn't intrude on the room.

Dust magnet!! Sound could be better from own speakers.

It's sleek and stylish, lovely picture and sound and everyone who's seen it thinks it 42" because there's very little frame and loads of screen. We love it. x

The black/red finish is very subtle and sets this TV apart from other brands.I bought the matching surround sound system and the whole unit is very impressive. The screen size gives the impression that its bigger than 40 inch-everyone who sees the TV wants one.The depth of the TV is a distinct advantage in reducing weight and means that there is more opportunities to position the TV in different parts of a room.Setting up was straight forward and it was up and running within minutes
-
The following are not really bad points but could be better-
The TV does attract dust because of its large screen and highly polished plastic(but then most TV screens attract dust)so a weekly dust is essential-I use a micofibre cloth that keeps it clean for a week.
The intenal speaker system could be better-the sound output range is limited.
The instuction manual has rather small print. It could be better designed and jargon free-pictures are always better than loads of text

Excellent picture quality. Spot-on colours. Jet blacks. Fast response time. Very stylish. Easy to set up and calibrate. Very slim and compact despite being a 40" screen.
-
Poor sound, best used with external system.
Expensive.
Input lag with games console or computer (renaming HDMI port in use to "Game" or "PC" cures this.)

Slim and Classy looking TV with a superb picture plus all the connections that you could possibly need.
-
Sound is not great, but then it's slim so I guess you can't put huge speakers in it!
Would definitely recommend connecting up a 5.1 surround system with this TV.

Screen Size in Inches

|
40
|
|
Screen size is measured diagonally from corner to corner.
|
Type of Screen

|
LCD
|
|
Most small flatscreen TVs have LCD screens. Some larger TVs have plasma screens. Some very new TVs have LED screens. Traditional TVs are called Standard or CRT.
|
HD TV

|
Full HD 1080p
|
‘HD Ready’ is a Europe-wide standard designed to made HD technology less confusing. HD Ready TVs must have
• Minimum vertical resolution of 750 pixels (in widescreen format)
• Ability to display 720p and 1080i formats
• An HDMI or Digital Video Interface (DVI interface)
Full HD is a higher standard. Full HD TVs have screen resolutions of 1080p and can output at least 24 frames per second.
Full HD is becoming common, but you won’t see Full HD on normal TV channels for a long time, so it remains optional for many people.

|
Freeview
|
