Excellent picture quality even when watching standard def tv. HD of course is on another level and looks stunning. Sound is really quite good in comparison to a normal old style tv but of course not as good as surround sound. Works very well with my PS3 when in game mode and makes the games even more stunning.
-
Honestly cant think of any. The only time you get a slightly bad image or blurring is when you are watching an obscure channel that doesnt broadcast good quality images (Not the TVs fault). If your watching through Sky or the big normal channels (BBC, ITV) the picture is excellent.

I very rarely write product reviews, however I have been a home cinema hobbiest for 10 years, and I spent 12 months researching the best full HD TV to purchase - the image quality of this Samsung is incredible. Whilst the sound is average, most serious HD users will have invested in independent surround sound capability, and the onboard sound is more than sufficient for day to day use. At last LCD has overtaken not only Plasma (Albeit discouting the Pioneer Kuros range) but also CRT televisions - no mean feat. At this price, the value for money is astounding.
A couple of pointers though - to get the most out of this TV, I would strongly recommend investing in an HD TV callibration DVD in order to adjust the picture settings, as the factory settings do not do the image justice. I would also advise testing all the different 100Hz settings with your favourite blu-rays / upscaled DVDs (BTW this TV's in-built upscaling capabilities are better than my onboard Sony blu-ray 350 upscaling...). Whilst movie purists will suggest the lowest 100Hz setting - you may find you get a more "high definition" feel from the second or Standard setting - this gives a much more 3D feel to the picture. The Smooth setting though did feel over-processed.
-
None whatsoever, providing you have invested in an external sound system. Also I gave 9 points for ease of use, as Home Cinema novices may struggle with the complexity of some of the menu's terminology, and resort to using factory settings, which would be a REAL shame. Neother of these factors comes anywhere close though to reducing the overall score from a full 10. In the words of Spinal Tap, I only wish that it could go to 11....

Image Quality is outstanding, clearly beats mostly all of the latest flatscreens (LCD and PLASMA, not LED) in the same and even higher price bands. Build quality and style is up to a very high spec. looks amazing even when switched off.
HD playback is out of this world and beats most TV's on the market.
-
Sound quality is poor but with a TV like this you would want to hook this up to a surround sound system.

A very nice looking television which I found to be quite easy to set up. I have found the picture quality to be exceptional especially when viewing blu ray movies. It is also great for watching sport and natural history type programs.

It is a struggle to say that this television has bad points but if pushed the sound quality can seem to be a little bit thin.

The quality of the images in full HD. Very convenient with full HD media (videos, music, pictures) playback through either USB port or streaming from computer via its DLNA support. Standard definition pictures are very good when not heavily detailed (e.g. leaves and plants in background) and when camera is not panning rapidly. Although I suspect this also down to heavy compression from broadcasters.
- Touch sensitive controls
- Remote lights up when pressing keys - helpful when watching in dark
- Good connectivity for computers and support for many resolutions.
- Picture in picture is great, though seems limited to inbuilt tuner when using other sources.
- Relatively light in weight.
- Can update software through USB port!
-
Sound is passable for everyday TV, though would definitely be enhanced with a separate audio system.
Has a high pitched whine when turned on, though is only noticeable when standing next to TV.

Looks great - very attractive design. Menu system is very swanky. Best bit is that it can decode loads and loads of video formats. So you can just plug in a usb memory key or HDD straight into the TV, and watch video you have downloaded off the internet. This works astonishingly well. HD picture quality is gorgeous.
-
It has these 'Widgets' - little software apps that connect to the internet to do things like show weather, share prices, flickr feeds etc. These do work, but there's very few of them, they do boring things, and they are very slow and clunky to use.

Great TV, same as SAMSUNG LE40B650 but this is the Dixons specific model. Cheaper at Dixons compared to everyone else. Plays .mkv's and most common file types through the USB ports so no need for a media centre any more. Picture is mint for standard and high def. Good remote with backlighting. Picture good for all sources straight from the box, a bit of tweaking after some digging on the internet gives perfect configuration.
-
Sound not mazing but by no means bad, looking at the magazine reviews it seems all LCD's fall into this category nowadays anyway.

Everything. From the moment this TV came out of its box I've had a big smile on my face. The USB function to play media from a USB stick is fantastic. So far every file type I have thrown on a USB stick the TV has been able to play. It also seems to be upscaling the quality of the files somewhat as well but that could be just me being so impressed with it.
With all the extra functions that this TV has over the other TV options available, Personally I think paying that little bit extra is well worth it.
You wont be disappointed

The TV has excellent image quality, a real noticable inprovement over my old set. It is easy to set-up taking only a few minutes. I have never had freeview before and was surprised at the number of channels, so having this built into the TV is great (lets see if I can survive without some of my usual cable channels...). Controls are pretty easy to use. A number of reviews have mentioned that the sound is not great - overall I would agree but it is OK for 'normal' tv watching... however for the full movie experience I would hook it up to a sound system. Of the widgets available the youtube one is actually quite good.
-
The only somewhat annoying point I have found is when using DLNA. While it works well as far as it goes it does not allow for fast forward / rewind which is somewhat annoying when watching movies... meaning that you have to watch them in one sitting. If you put the movie on a USB stick instead of streaming it from your PC you can fast forrward (at x2...) but the whole point of a network connect TV is that i removes all this type of stuff....

very good (if not the best) for its price range.
design is beautiful.
button interface is novel and interesting.
Blu-ray and upscaled DVD look very clear on the screen (standard tv signal not so good)
-
only has a standby function and no off switch.
no simple aspect ratio button, requires searching through a list of menus.
channel tuning cannot find some of the freeview channels my previous television could find using the same ariel.
sound is realitively low quality through the TV, I reccomend getting a surround sound system (even a dvd home cinema kit) and linking it with an optical audio cable so that all sound can run through it.
Its picture cannot compare with top of the line models. 100Hz motion may be better than anything before but still suffers blurriness with fast motion. for those sensitive to motion blur (seemingly my friends aren't but I am) i would reccomend 200Hz or higher, but there's a price tag to go with that!

This is a superb LCD TV. The picture settings took a bit of tweaking but the end result was stunning HD images and excellent SD Freeview (upscaled) picture quality. There is slight motion judder (even when the 100Hz Motion Plus is switched on) but it barely noticeable.
The internet TV feature is only available after purchasing a "dongle" for about £45. This connects to a wifi router and gives access to YouTube and other widgets.
The design of this TV is eyecatching and far more attractive than the normal oblong box look of most LCD TV's. I chose the Dixons - Currys version of this model because I liked the look of the (subtle) red stipe below the screen and on the stand.
I did a lot of research and looked at a lot of other 40" LCD TV's before buying this set. I'm glad I chose it because it's a stunner!
-
Sound quality not bad but lacks bass (as with all similar LCD TVs), so you really need a surround sound system to get the best home cinema enjoyment from the TV.
TV can only be left on standby and not switched off completely.
The TV and stand attracts the dust and needs wiping over every other day.

Fantastic TV and outstanding images. I purchased this TV after much research and glad I didn't opt for the Sony Bravia W5500 with similar specifications. 100hz allows fantastic picture quality for watching live sports. The TV menu is easy to use and visually pleasing. Overall an outstanding TV and I highly recommend this TV.
-
This is not a 'bad' point but the sound quality is limited but lets be honest, if you're investing in a TV with these specs - wouldn't you want the excuse to purchase a home cinema kit!

It has the best standard definition picture if configured correctly and plus a nice design.
-
Draws 16w of power on standby instead of 0.3w. Am waiting for a replacement as this is way to much. Hopefully this is just a blip with this individual TV.

Cannot connect to iPod through USB, finding it very difficult to connect wireless and I personally don't like the red light staying on when you turn it off, I like to turn things completely OFF

unable to use to full potential as HD not available unless with Sky or Virgin or Freesat, but with Virgin V+ box all veiwing is at reduced refresh rate of 50 mhz, why were we sold a 100 mhz TV? I don't blame you, I blame the sales assistant at Currys in Chichester!

Excellent high def picture, Great extra features including network port for connecting to PC so that you can share photos, video and music through the screen.
-
Widgets are abit slow and gimicky, not many of them to choose from, needs more development.
Anynet + can be annoying if you have another Samsung device.

Picture quality is awesome. I can access my files using DLNA (using PC Share Manager).
-
Although I can access my PC through DLNA, I can't seem to be able to access my NAS - there's not enough information about doing this i.e. external server etc. The specs are not forthcoming about the fact that you will need to purchase a separate Samsung dongle (over £49.99 retail so far) in order to use DLNA or make your tv set wireless - I only found out about this after trawling through the manual. I was under the impression that the tv has in-built wireless capabilities.

picture quality, viewed in hd and this set comes into it`s own, with motion plus it has to be one of the leading products for this price catagory in terms of viewing. Easy on the eye, very attractive looking tv with a hint of rose red tint in the black framing, and a nice looking remote, easy to follow instructions to fully appreciate all this model has to offer, and the price now makes this a very good buy.
-
the sound quality is a different story, because of it`s rear speakers (to enhance the "easy on the eye " aspect ,the sound is lacking in quality ,i tend to watch my tv through my home cinema set up to appreciate the fullness of picture and sound.

Excellent picture quality once calibrated (just a minor problem with moire stops this getting a ten)
Upscaling algorithm looks to be good
Great design (a choice of colours would be better)
-
Sound is adequate (but typical of onboard speakers - lacking in bass depth and definition - hard to adjust)
The internet features are slow
Build quality is good but not as solid as (say) a Sony

This is a great value for money product. Exceptional high contract HD image quality. Again, bundles of extra features including Internet content such as YouTube, News, Weather etc. Easily connects with your computer over a Ethernet connection and able to play media content directly from your PC.
I thoroughly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for great features for an affordable price.
