+ Good reception, long wave is important for cricket test match special and reception of R4 in Europe. No other radios offer LW at this size and type. Battery life is good and use of AAA batteries means that it is easy and cheap to get rechargeable ones. Automatically set to switch off after 11/2 hours is very good battery saver. Speaker sound is louder than you would expect. Very, very, important, the clincher, is quality of sound with earphones-there is no hissing on FM-sound quality is excellent. I have tried many other radios including Sony, Hitachi etc and they all have far poorer sound reproduction with noticeable hiss. Do not believe any review about Sony sound qaulity they are all very disappointing.

- Rounded shape is not good in some respects as it does not stand-up on a desk, have to lay it flat with speaker pointing upwards. Can't direct speaker towards you. Background light and clock would help. The process for setting presets is not intuitive nor is the method for moving through the presets, it could all be a lot easier. A bit pricey given limited features. Does not bounce on marble floors therefore I am on to my second radio.

+ I wanted to pick up Radio 4 in France. This radio does that, and it is robust enough to withstand being in my pocket or under my pillow. I wanted an automatic switch off, and it has one, so I can go to sleep listening. It is quite light to carry.

+ Has a good little speaker although the volume is obviously restricted due to its size. very good sound through earphones.easy to use switches and display.Good reception in most areas. Good build quality.
