Pure Highway Reviews: DAB and FM

+ The product is easy to use.

- Poor reception within 15 mile radius of where i live and poor reception inland.

+ Will be good when the Digital signal is even through out the country

- if you travel through poor reception areas the signal cuts in and out so much I found I had to switch back to AM, not much good on a long drive on a motorway where there are few digital signals available, but not so bad in urban areas
Also, just like a Sat Nav you have to keep removing the unit from the screen when parked to avoid it getting nicked,

+ Reception is good when you are not moving, but once you are travelling the reception is poor and you keep needing to re-scan; which isn't great when you are concentrating on driving.

having to re-tune between areas whilst driving - presumably to pick up the nearest signal????

- Not always great signal and for multiple moving from mount ( ie working in a rough area at night 3 times a week) magnet on back not really attached strongly enough on back of casing.

+ Very easy to use, good user interface.

- The bad points aren't really anything to do with the receiver. DAB coverage can still be patchy, but hopefully this should improve as more analogue transmitters are switched off and then some more power can be used for digital terrerstrial broadcasting.

+ I can,t really fault this Radio,apart from sometimes it won,t go into Digital Station,possibly area we live in,

- As an older member of the community,I found it was that easy to understand,whilst trying to tune in to other stations, and still have,nt managed. A helpfull call center or similar would be useful.

+ Fm transmit range 87.6 to 107.9 DAB autoscan

- Unable to stay with radio station (ie,CHILL) when moving from one local multiplex to the next (Highway- Does not continuously scan all frequences for same station- which may have better reception) Too much HISS when playback of MP3 when using AUX input (compared to my previous FM sender) Suction pad TOO large and Flexi arm TOO short. Replacement AERIAL not availiable from pure online shop! DAB reception in general is POOR, UNTIL RPC5 power upgrades to most transmitters is implemented so the use of HIGHWAY will be limited to on Strong Signal areas.
90% of population = ONLY 50% of landarea , I find myself switching to FM which is always better.

+ I can still listen to my favourite radio stations when on the move so I now no longer need to record to listen
to later. It was very easy to install in the car.

- Sometimes the reception (in Kent) is sometimes intermittent. It is however very good in London/Surrey and Berkshire areas. The car power adaptor is prone to getting knocked on my vehicle being just forward of the gear lever I may ask Pure if they have a different design available for my car.

- Poor and varying reception and more importantly because of the fix for once aerial we cannot transfer it between both of our cars

- the window mounting is a bit agricultural so I tried stashing the unit in the glove box with all the wires hidden behind the dash but reception was a bit iffy

- Signal coverage very poor, constantly in and out of reception even in built up areas eg, Brighton, Exeter, Exmouth, Manchester.

- absolutely terrible reception constantly crackling and breaking up we have gone back to listening the normal radio as the digital one is a complete waste of time

- bad coverage in parts of hertfordshire and virtually none in suffolk having to retune the fm signal as the airwaves are very crowded and there are few gaps to fit in the signal from the highway to the car radio aerial not available as a spare part so that it can be easily replaced when car sold or when using unit in another car

+ Nice design, fairly fir-for purpose WITHIN GOOD DAB COB=VERAGE AREA ONLY (i.e. for vehicles travelling WELL WITHIN London central areas)

- Not suitable for DAB reception in traffic zones from 3 onwards, let alone further than Zone 4

- Leads everywhere in the car very untidy, Cuts out completely very often when in a dip. Huge disappointment I don't bother to use it any more. Because it fits to the windscreen you have to take it off and disconnect every time, extremely fiddly.

+ I can get the stations I like to listen to. Sound quality is excellent. Surpasses FM reception. Simple to install and set up. Can use it as a walk-around radio unit with headphones.

- I keep having to retune the FM frequency to avoid interferance. I travel all around the UK and there are a lot of blank places.

+ Easy to set up and use. Good long wires means I can install the unit and hide the wiring inside the car trim. Nice display. Good reception on the car stereo in comparison to other broadcasting devices I've tried.

- Can be fiddly to change things when driving...probably best not to!

+ I can listen to BBC 1 extra all the time now

Aerial mounting is a little "Heath Robinson".

- Will single handedly cause global warming from cause the battery usage for away from the car is horrendous. If our using most of the time in car then buy it. If you want a personal DAB get sommat else!

+ Very easy to understand and use. Channels you don't get on FM and varied to suit most tastes. Great for playing your MP3 or other devices through the car radio speakers. It is also very good as a portable radio though I don't know how long the batteries would last?I

- I wouldn't say the following were bad points, merely possible improvements. You have to disconnect your MP3 etc to revert to radio, a button/switch would have been better. If you travel a lot you sometimes have to keep re-tuning. Not many Local stations broadcast in DAB. It would be great if it were an FM radio as well giving you the best choice.

- Bulky and too large for dash set-up especially when using sat-nav Too large to use as a stand alone portable DB radiop compared to others on market Seperate aerial is messy and creates too much wire trail Frequency on DAB not yet good enough to listen to on themove without losing signal. I have reverted back to MW to listen without losing signal. Overall I feel money was wasted on this product!

- DAB reception is not good enough in rural areas - maybe this is not due to the product, but it means that it doesn't always deliver it's primary function - digital radio in the car, on the move!

- unnecessarily large, it could be much smaller more suitable for portable use; FM transmission could be more powerful, my car radio cannot find it automatically, though after manual tuning it works fine; in portable mode it is very power-hungry, in 3 hours drains a pair of Duracell Ultras

+ So easy to install and operate. I bought the external aerial so that I can use it in my work van and car. The reception and clarity is superb. I have a jack socket so connect direct to my radio. It is the best bit of kit I have bought in the last few years. So now I can listern to Planet Rock all the time.

- The case is a strange shape to carry, but ideal when clipped to the windscreen mount. Battery life not so great.

- No means of connecting device to car radio (whole purpose!!!). When this device was purchased (top end of mkt product) only mono sound received. Coupled with lousy reception, this is a poor deal.

+ Everything. I bought this purely to listen to planet rock in the car, was easy to fit and tune it and I am so glad i bought it - worth every penny.

- FM drops out now and again (it broadcasts itself to your car radio via fm) however as my car has an aux jack I have plugged in there and not had a problem since.

I travel 2hrs to work, and i can travel the whole distance without having to keep changing channels, unlike fm radio.
