Plustek OpticFilm 7300

+ Superb to be able to digitalise slides - many of which are many years old. Also the software means discoloured and grainy slides can be very much restored to an excellent state. I am really pleased with my purchase.

+ Easy to use (after experimenting, documentation poor as I find for most modern IT equipment)
Excellent scans, well focussed. Auto optimisation works fine on most slides.
Ability to capture viewable images from badly underexposed negatives and slides.

- Slide carrier not positively located enough, often have to slightly straighten it up.

+ Easy to use and works well with VISTA and XP

- Higher resolution scans take some time

+ Good quality of scans. There is an excellent option to be able to do batch scans so that the file numbers are created automatically by adding to text you have already entered eg you enter "Film 23 -" and it creates files "Film 23 - 1", "Film 23 - 2" etc as you scan each negative.

- The software looks complex to use but with a little be of effort it is easy to operate.

+ Compact design, easy of setting up. Quality of final image.

- Software requires a lot of 'expert' knowledge. There is no hard copy instructions. It would be good if the slides/negs advanced automatically but given the price that would be asking a lot.

+ Good quality scanned image.

- Slightly flaky software. Would always crash when trying to scan at highest resolution. Several controls would often need to be clicked twice becausethe firstclick would just transfer the focus to the contol's parent. That sort of bug should havebeen eliminated beforebeta testing.

+ Easy to load slides and negative; solid but neat construction; good value for money; Quickscan feature excellent for slides.

- Quickscan software good for slides but had to purchase VueScan to get acceptable results for negatives.

+ At last a good way of digitalising the many thousands of colour slides dating back to 1950.

- Has taken some time to get the best out of it but maybe this is because of my age ! Fortunately I have a very competent grandson without whose help I could have struggled for ages.

+ Neat and tidy and easy to set up and use

- bundled software and drivers both required updating before the thing would work correctly.

+ Resolution - although 7200dpi is probably way too much for most home users; even 2400dpi produces larger files than my digital SLR

- Speed - it does seem rather slow, even at 2400dpi

+ Easy to set up and use.

+ 1/ Ease of use to convert to digits.

3/ using 35mm. Negs or Pos. film - with a good Photo software program the final picture is Good.

- Poor Software install & Selection of software

+ Comparatively simple to operate, plenty of options for dpi etc

- Can be fairly slow to scan; scratch removal software is not as effective as it should be

+ overall very good!

- 1.the bright light although seems not bright but for long period it do things to eyes... then I discover puting a dark slide on it solve the problem.
2.the niose can make people headache but of course one should rest a bit every ha-hour.
