for the extra money versus other screens of that size - it is a very good plasma, and the picture quality shows...and the separate media box helps ease the mess of wires if you want to wall mount it.

Is more expensive than other 42" screens...but you have to pay for quality?

Picture quality is superb both with DVD playback and digital HD sources. You will immediately notice the difference over a normal CRT screen, colours are vibrant and well defined with the black images very well represented. Sound quality is excellent with several different settings including bass enhancement and surround effects. The case of the TV is presented in a shiny piano black finish and really adds to the quality feel of the unit.
-
The user manual could explain some of the settings in more detail. For example the section on adjusting picture quality could be improved.

Expert reviews for Pioneer Kuro PDP436
TechRadar expert review
The fact that this 43in stunner from Pioneer has been around for quite sometime now does little to stop it remaining a quite formidable proposition. The 1,024 x 768 HD-ready panel is stuffed to the gills with technology and picture processing systems to ensure that it delivers nothing but the very best in image quality. Brightness has been raised, blacks have been strengthened, while the pixels themselves are designed to avoid colour seepage, while their energy efficiency has been optimised. If all this weren't enough, there's also Pioneer's awesome PureDrive II system to contend with.…

‘HD Ready’ is a Europe-wide standard designed to made HD technology less confusing. HD Ready TVs must have
• Minimum vertical resolution of 750 pixels (in widescreen format)
• Ability to display 720p and 1080i formats
• An HDMI or Digital Video Interface (DVI interface)
Full HD is a higher standard. Full HD TVs have screen resolutions of 1080p and can output at least 24 frames per second.
Full HD is becoming common, but you won’t see Full HD on normal TV channels for a long time, so it remains optional for many people.
