+ Now that the HD war is over, there is now even more reasons to purchase this player. Very pricey considering what else is out there, but this product proves you get what you pay for. The sound & image quality through True HD is unbelievable.

- Transmission tray could be smoother, but I'm being picky.

+ Truly stunning Blu ray picture, excellent sound. Very easy to set up. Works best with high end equiptment.

- As with all Blu ray players the discs take forever to load, and dvd performance, while good is not quite as good as I would have expected for the money.

Expert reviews for Pioneer BDP-LX70

TechRadar expert review

The Pioneer LX70A lacks the hardware to be upgraded to Blu-ray Profile 1.1, but its LAN connection does at least allow it to go online and download new firmware. This is a significant boon. While taken for granted with HD DVD, it's still rare on dedicated Blu-ray machines. It's also fully-compatible with both Dolby True HD and DTS HD Master Audio, giving cinephiles access to every audio format in use.If you've got a swish new AV receiver equipped with a full set of next-gen decoders, it'll even bitstream audio out for external digital-to-analogue conversion.A Blu-ray player for…

TechRadar expert review

With the PlayStation 3 now allowing Blu-ray playback for ¬£425, you might expect the prices of standalone Blu-ray decks to plummet. Yet the latest entrant into the burgeoning HD disc market, Pioneer's BDP-LX70, costs a cool ¬£1,000 - more than twice the price of a PS3, and three times as much as the cheapest standalone HD DVD player out there. Ouch. We had better hope, then, that it can also pack a serious punch in the feature and performance departments. It certainly looks like it means business, thanks to a strikingly heavy-duty build quality and polished, stylish finish. Its…

DVD players and Digital Video Recorders (DVD/HDD recorders) Buying Guide

Manufacturer's Description

See and hear as the film-makers intended
HD Digital Film Direct: 24fpsThe BDP-LX70 gets the best out of high definition media. It delivers ‘master quality’; audio and video exactly as the film-makers intended, perfectly played back at 1080p and 24Hz.

We call this ‘HD Digital Film Direct’; it ensures that what you see is at exactly the same speed and using the same 24 frames per second as the film was shot, stored, mastered and screened at the cinema.

Dolby TrueHDThe player supports Dolby TrueHD. This means that not only are you guaranteed full high definition video quality, but “lossless” audio: sound without any distortion, interference or noise. Audio exactly as the film sound engineers intended.

Build a true HD home network solution
DLNAThe BDP-LX70 can therefore receive compressed audio, movie and image files across your home IP network.

The player is DLNA compatible (by Ethernet), which means that content can be streamed from your home computer to the player.

High quality design and build
The BDP-LX70 has an efficient, double-layered chassis, which delivers incredible mechanical stability; important in ensuring interference-free playback of media.

Each component within the player is designed for high-performance, with the main circuit, power supply, Blu-ray drive and audio circuits sealed for mechanical strength. Gold-plated terminals further enhance the BDP-LX70 promise of high quality, high definition output.

Multiple formats, multiple media
The BDP-LX70 is not only a Blu-ray disc player, but can also play your entire DVD collection, supporting both PAL and NTSC playback. And of course, it can play audio CDs, too.

Straightforward, simple operation
HDMIFinally, the player uses HDMI control, which means that, once it is connected to one of our flat-screen TV’s, for example, a single remote control can be used to control both the player and the screen.
