Philips 37PF9731D Reviews: 37" Screen LCD Full HD 1080p TV

+ Design looked good,connectivity very good.

- Having looked high and low,on the net before buying this tv,eg-won european high end tv of the year 2006.It seemed like a safe bet.But oh NO,after only two weeks,it got a bad back lighting problem,dark bands between tubes.Other people on forums have had the same.Tv went back for refund.

+ This is a superbly designed television for looks and ease of use. The contrast is superb and the definition within the blacks are incredible. It is true what the hype from philips when it boasts the experience ambilight compliments the overall viewing experience. I can certainly agree with this point and I would have no hesitaion in recommending this fantastic LCD television to my friends

- The only critism I have with the television is that when a figure or subject in close up moves quickly across the screen there appears to be a ghosting or shimering effect around the person or subject while it is in motion

+ Lot of inputs. Excellent picture, although when using a scart input (lower quality) I found it better to turn off the Pixel-plus feature

- Stereo sound is ok but would benefit from a good 5.1 amp

+ Fabulous picture with HD broadcasts, improved quality terrestrial picture.

- Green line at top of screen due to picture coding algorithm. Not too distracting, but always prompts questions as to why it's there. Firmware upgrade needed.

+ Great TV (have 37 inch version). HD results from upscaled source awesome.

- Can't watch it 24/7

+ Love the Ambilight, very atmospheric.

- The product is advertised as having PC-link to enable wireless connectivity from PC to Screen. This functionality was my main purchasing point. However, on receipt of the product it became clea that PC Link is only software enablement and that other wireless products (in ADDITION to a wireless router) were required. Todate I have not managed to enable this capability, it is poorly specified and poorly supported (not descrobed in any detail in the whole box of manuals which come with the TV). Had I know this to be the case I would have purchased the cheaper Ambilight TV without PC Link.

+ The picture quality is breathtaking.
Ambilight is a great feature.

- There is some feint banding on strong colours for the first 20 minuts after switch on.

+ Last Philips I had was excellent and so is this: partner loves ambilight

- Not enough sockets!

+ Nice design. Good remote. Ambilight is brilliant.

- This TV has a design fault - DO NOT BUY ONE - it has a strobing backlight and the backlight bulbs fail leaving bars across the screen. The bulbs do not last long and Philips are well aware of this. It is a shame because ambilight is superb.

+ Excellent colour and definition on both standard and high definition, ambilight a big plus point.

- Not able to change screen aspect in certain modes leads to some frustration.

+ Great picture and sound.

- You seem to have to wait for it to warm up before turning it on, after it has been switched off at the plug for the night.

+ Incredible image, slick design, ambilight works better then expected.

- Clunky interface. Menu's are cumbersome
