+ Quick and easy to use
-
Takes a while between pressing the shutter and the picture being taken, when flash with red-eye reduction is being used.
Focusing is not always accurate (with portraits where the background is a little busy)

+ Compact camera which is very easy to use.
- The camera is a bit slurry when switched on, it sounds like the battery is low.

+ I wanted an SD-using compact camera (as I already have lots of SD cards from my previous camera as well as an SD picture frame). I tested out about 20 similar specification camera's before commiting to this one (Casio, Fuji, Nikon etc), and overall, I am very happy with my choice. For the average photographer (nights out, holiday snaps, the occasional attempt at something arty, etc) this camera is perfect. VERY easy to use, and some great features - for example, the continuous shooting (which is great for taking photo's of people who don't relax in photos as it takes about one pic per second, so you will get a relaxed pic after a few shots). Mainly it's a point and shoot camera, but you can choose your functions if you want a more "technical" shot, for example a night shot with slow release shutter). Light. Compact. Stylish. The zoom is very good, and graciously stops for a second before going into digital zoom so you can avoid it, if desired. For the technically inept or unconfident, there is a green button on the camera which resets the camera back to autopic mode when pressed - very handy when exploring the different functions, or if you get lost in the menu's! Compared to similar priced cameras, for me this one was top of it's class.
-
You have to hold the "take photo" button down slightly longer than I am used to whilst the camera finds its focus, and photo's taken with the flash aren't as sharp as I am used to (previous camera was a 5mp konica minolta dimage x60, which was wonderful, but sadly no longer made).
It doesn't come with a case. The charger is UK plug only (would have been handy to have a European lead in the box too...).

+ Image Quality, Build Quality, Simple Menu System.
- No Viewfinder, in High Sunlight Screen Difficult to See.
purchased 26 Apr 2008
+ The camera is a perfect size to take out with you and you could easily pop it into your handbag or pocket. The menus are eay to navigate and there are many excellent features which are explained on the viewing screen when you highlight them. The camera takes pictures very rapidly after the button is pressed unlike our previous digital camera, this means we are getting excellent quality pictures from this camera.

+ While this camera conatins all the bells and whistles you could possibly want, the fully automatic function gives excellent results. The camera is small enough to fit into a pocket, and all edges are rounded making it a smooth fit in any container.
- Like most modern small cameras, there is no optical viewfinder.

Pentax's Optio range of cameras just keeps getting better and better. The Pentax Optio M40 was impressive, but its latest offering, the Pentax Optio S10, is pure genius.
