+ HD and SD pictures very good and 50 inches worth of screen.

- Minor point sound stage. Not a problem if using separate AV receiver.

+ nice sleek design, good picture quality, good black levels, great value for money a decent hd ready plasma basic but does the job.

- only HD ready not full 1080 hd which at this size would have been nice but hence the price. Not as sharp or vivid as some top LCDs.

+ Stylish appearance, great picture and colours - great for Planet Earth type programmes and ..... it's big! [great!]. Feels like you're there.

- PC connection is for analogue display. When HDMI port is used for digital images the PC display does not 'sync' when you switch back from another AV channel - probably not an issue for most people

Score 9.0/10

+ Great looking product, easy to set up with the kind of picture quality for which Panasonic have become famous. Looked at various TVs for over a year before buying this. Sport is great and both DVD and Blue ray viewing is stunning. Also used for gaming - pretty mind-blowing with the most up-to-date games.
Great overall purchase and happy I waited for it.

- Freeview seems a bit flaky with channels dropping in and out - although I am in a slightly dodgy area. Nothing else.

+ Picture is superb for a HD ready machine. It may lack the resolution of a full HD set if both were side by side. However, it is high quality bearing in mind the price of this plasma. Easy to set up and use on a day to day basis. Motion is fine. Well constructed and looks like an expensive TV. If you want a big screen at an affordable price, you will not be disappointed. Recommend this plasma as great value for money.

- Sound acceptable but not great. This is a common problem with most flatscreens. However, my home cinema amplifier overcomes this problem.

Score 10.0/10

+ The image quality is fantastic - far better than any LCD sets I viewed in the same price range. It does an excellent job of up-scaling a SD feed and so the picture quality looks fantastic regardless of an SD or HD input. There are more than enough appropriate connectors for me. My two main worries with buying a plasma were image retention and reflections. Thankfully, neither have been a problem. Regardless of how much ambient lighting is on, I can see the picture clearly and do not get a reflection of myself watching it.

- The only mark that I did not give 10/10 for was sound. The sound is still very good but, like with any television, if you are going to watch a lot of films, you are better off connecting external speakers. This is not a criticism of this set, more a generally criticism of all televisions (but it helps to keep their price down).

+ Panasonic quality at its best. Very sharp images. If your sitting far away from your TV dont waste your money on Full HD, theres very little difference between that and HD ready (at a distance). Sky plus and freesat are in HD ready format (not full hD) unless your watching blue ray movies you wont see the difference.

- The TV is very reflective and glossy, if you get it in black even more so. In daylight you can sometimes see your reflection if a dark picture is on the screen... but it all depends on how you position your tv.

Expert reviews for Panasonic TX50X10B

TechRadar expert review

Panasonic's hit rate with plasma is the envy of just about every manufacturer other than Pioneer. And now, with the latter's recent announcement that it is dropping flatscreens, the path to pre-eminence in this field is suddenly wide open. The TX-P50X10B is Panasonic's latest entry-level enormo screen. It might take you back, as it did us, to discover that a set of this size is merely HD Ready, rather than full HD. Fifty inches just seems too big for anything less than 1080p these days, particularly with Blu-ray gaining ground on DVD, satellite broadcasts in the ascendancy and hi-def…
