Panasonic SC-PT460 Reviews: 5.1 Surround Sound Home Cinema System

+ Easy to set up. Good sound quality. With HDMI upscaling, picture quality definitely better when watching DVD's.
Although all surround sound speakers don't always activate, (Sky and some terrestrial tv programmes), the sound quality is so much better than that from the tv.

- It's probably me, but apart from the set up, I found the instruction manual a bit difficult to understand. Also I think you'd need to be an anorak to understand and appreciate the range of features that the sysytem has. Again it's probably me, but while I can get the viera compatability to work when turning the TV on/ off and the volume up/ down, I can't get it to change channels, so I still need tv remote for that.

+ For the price a very good purchase indeed.

- Speakser wires are to short to reach back of room to create surround sound. As wire is already fitted with connectors, makes it a bit difficult for layout. Should have means of fitting own speaker wire.

- when Playing my Playstation 3 through the system, some games with only dolby digital (instead of Pro logic 2) didn't seem to work for some reason, but this is only a small problem.

- There are 2 hdmi plugs in the back, but only 1 scart and 1 audio plug, so attaching to older equipment (ie vidoeplayers, ntl box etc) a bit tricky.

- subwoofer too loud even at low settings; despite changing it for a new replacement one;one thing i find very irratating is that there is no feel to the on/of button and same goes with the eject button; feels very cheap and gives the impression its damaged!!!!

- As previous reviews i`ve read, the speaker cables are too short, it seems ridiculous of Panasonic to try and keep the cost of this unit down by cutting back on probably the cheapest part of the entire system, how much would another 3 or 4 meters of speaker cable cost a big company like Panasonic???????

- Wires to rear speakers too short for a modern lounge, I'd say needed an extra 2 metres - 3 metres on these two speakers and an extra 2 meters on the front left tweater.

+ The sound is great and with the i pod connection i use it as a hi fi. Picture quality is great, i was going to buy a blu ray player but the picture is that good from a dvd that i wont bother now

+ Reasonably easy to install and set up. The surround speakers are thankfully small but provide a good quality output. The price and quality of build was good and certainly compared well with other similar 5.1 systems that I examined. The uprating DVD player provides a clear and steady picture and the HD picture on the HDMI output is exceptional. The FM tuner works well and I have not tried the docking station.

- I would have liked the display on the machine to have been a little brighter when making adjustments but that is a personal view.

- Speaker wires for rear spekers could be longer. The interface for the ipod isn't that easy to use, and it doesn't allow you to use the software on the ipod itself when it's plugged in.

- Initial set up is easy, but the manual makes fine tuning a long and tedious process.

+ Good product for a very reasonable price. Didn't find it as difficult to set up as some people had reported, but you do need to read the instructions and concentrate.
