+ For me the main advantage is the image quality, truly stunning on my 1080P plasma and a close second is the overall size of the unit, it can fit in your palm.
- Nothing to do with the camera, but the cost of a spare battery is pricey.

+ very comfortable to hold whilst filming, lightweight.Good to be able to view thumbnails instead of having to view everything or search for what you want to see it's instantaneous.Puts you straight back to where you last filmed without gaps or overlap as i experienced with a previous mini-dv tape.Exactly what i wanted when downloading am able to put straight onto disc, pretty fast, excellent picture quality.
- initially found the control stick difficult to manouvre around with as it is quite tiny, although i did read same in a review prior to purchasing, however after a little trial & error got used to it,but anyone with fat-fingers would struggle.

+ The selling point for me was the HD picture quality but I soon realised that one of the major plus points was the extended battery life. Having the 60GB hard drive proved to be value for money instead of buying the HDCSD9 which is memory card only. The extra money spent on the hard drive was well worth it, giving you far more freedom with this product. With a two week holiday where filming was constant, the extra capacity of the hard drive was far more suitable that if I had had the memory card, or even extra cards.
- Having had to really think hard about any bad points the one thing that I would have liked to be different on this camera was the position of the ZOOM control, possibly to have been controlled by your thumb and not finger.

+ picture quality
- controls for navigating menus on the camera small and difficult to operate
purchased 05 May 2008
+ Small, easy to use, good quality pictures and video.
- Not sure how easy it will be to get the format so it can be copied onto DVDs and played in DVD players. Pinnacle software supplied has to be purchased before use.
purchased 13 Jul 2008
+ good image quality and light weight
- No good subsequent processing software available for the PC; hopefully this will change in future as the format becomes more widely used.
purchased 15 Aug 2008
+ Ease of use, top of the range with picture clarity and colour, so easy to carry with you at all times.
- availability and cost of batteries, with such a short life.

purchased 30 Jun 2008
+ Reasonably easy to use.
- The supplied software is rubbish, unusable, unfriendly. It should be supplied with a simple software solution that allows editing of VCHD files.
purchased 31 Aug 2008
+ This is my first camcorder and I have shown the images to friends who are camcorder users and they are impressed with the picuture quality of the recordings and the size and weight of the camera. It is very basic and you soon pick up the features and how to find them.
- The only bad point is the cursor button which is small and fiddly to use, especially if you are right handed. However, the use of the button gets easier with practice, it wouldn't stop me from recomending the camera to others.

Camcorders Buying Guide60GB HDD holds a full 23h of memories When it comes to beauty, the 3CCD camera system makes a world of difference
Worldwide, there is a strong and growing trend toward large-screen, high-image-quality televisions and high-definition (HD) broadcasting. In line with this, manufacturers are transitioning to HD quality in all other types of video equipment too. Panasonic, consistent with its long-time position as a leader in the video field, is now introducing two advanced full-HD 3CCD camcorders, the HDC-SD9 and HDC-HS9.
The HDC-HS9 offers full-HD 1920 × 1080 progressive recording (25 frames per second) to capture images with a richness and beauty simply not possible with previous consumer camcorders. Users can record motion images with the kind of film-like quality enjoyed in movies at the cinema. The 17-Mbps bit rate of the HDC-HS9 gives superb image quality and motion response, while the high compression ratio enables one full hour of recording onto a 4-GB SD Memory Card (in HX mode) at full-HD resolution
It also has new features such as Face Detection and the Intelligent Shooting Guide, which make it easier to capture mistake-free shots. It also offers Panasonic’s original 3CCD camera system, Advanced O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), and a Leica Dicomar lens – three technologies that team up to deliver full-HD images of exquisite beauty. Viewed on today’s high-quality large-screen TVs, video clips shot with the HDC-SD9 are simply breathtaking.
The HS9 is a hybrid model that records full-HD images onto either an SD (or SDHC) Memory Card or the built-in 60GB hard disk. A 16GB SDHC Memory Card can hold around six hours of recorded video clips, and the 60GB hard disk can hold around 23 hours (both in HE mode). This gives the HS9 a total capacity of around 29 hours of full-HD recording. The HS9 can copy recorded video images from the SD Memory Card to the hard disk, or vice versa, with easy operation.
The HS9 also features an outstanding 5.1-channel sound system with five microphones. When you listen to recordings made with the HS9 on a good surround sound audio system, you feel as if you’re right in the scene. This adds to the awesome entertainment that comes with viewing HD images on a large-screen HDTV. Users can enjoy producing and viewing their own videos with a film-like richness and levels of picture and sound quality that have simply never been attainable until now.
