+ Excellant range of pre-set shooting modes for the novice. Good size and clarity of LCD screen. Light weight for a DSLR (dependant on lens) Battery life very good. Easy conection and data transfer. Good camera for entry level DSLR users and profesionals alike.

- May have just bought camers body and seperate lens as the 14-42mm lens was not quite as versatile as I thought and I have bought another lens now with a wider range (18-180mm) which gives me more scope without carrying and changing different size lenses.

+ Small, light, well built, live-view, controls well placed. Stunning pictures when you put the effort in to get the exposure, balance etc. right. Lots of features and customisable. Fits xD and CFII cards.
Image stabilisor in the body, so lenses do not need it, hence tend to be cheaper.

- Loses detail in over-exposed areas easily. Low-power flash used for auto-focus assist in low light by default - can be irritating. Auto focus occasionally fails to quickly lock on what appears an easy target, but gets there in the end.

+ This camera provides an excellent picture quality with both supplied lenses. The camera is very robust and during my last holiday it survived a rather violent drop with little more than a slight scratch to the bodywork.
The built in scene settings are some of the best I've seen on a DSLR and the controls and feedback during full manual shots are excellent.

- A few body shortcuts to features such as the AEB would have been appreciated, but aside from minor quibbles such as this it is very difficult to fault this camera.

+ First class lens and image quality. Light-weight body is easy to carry. Programme modes make for easy exposure settings when in a hurry to get that perfect shot. The body feels well-made and the rubberised grips make it feel secure when held. All the dials and buttons are easy to use. Image stabilisation and a dust removal system acknowleged as the best available make for extra confidence when shooting.

- Could do with more than the three auto-focus points. A protective cover for the LCD as per Nikon would have been nice. The USB Video out cover flap is flimsy and feels like it couild easily break.

+ 4/3 size, good quality build, good features, good menu system, anti shake, anti dust, images are very good apart from high iso; like the supplied software; style, size & grip really work for me.

- choice of 4/3 lenses - but this is getting better and Olympus provide three quality ranges; worst point is relatively noisy images at high ISO - that's about it.

- Sometimes the flash seems to take a while to go off after popping up, creating a lag effect when taking photos in low light. Could be to do with automatic settings, which may be fixable with manual overrides. I am not an expert, so not sure how other cameras compare

+ It's much more compact than a Canon and the controls are not overly complicated. Being a 4/3rds system the lenses are also compact. Battery life is superb. I bought two spare but have not needed them. Being Olympus it is very well made and feels well balanced. The fact that with an adaptor I can use my old OM System lenses is a definite bonus. As the rest of the world seems to use Canon DSLR's the E510 makes you feel that you are not another sheep following the flow. To use a car analogy, everyone else drives a Ford Focus, but you drive an Audi.

- Coming from a film SLR background I find the lack of manual focusing aides frustrating, also the shutter speed information in the view is very unclear - not a patch on my old OM2. E System is not as extensive os the OM System and the lenses are split into 3 group: Standard, Pro, and Top Pro. The image quality of the Standard lenses is prehaps not as good as I was expecting, but maybe I'm just getting old.
