Navman S90I Europe

+ Previously owned a Navman ICN 510. Very good clear mapping, especially at roundabouts. Very quickly re- routes. Clear voice instructions, says road number too. Pleased with product

- A separate home charger with product would have been useful (can buy seperatly) & also a cushioned, neat carrying case should be available to buy as an extra

+ Who needs an instruction manual ? So easy to use. Excellent product, though have not tried it outside uk yet.

- Mains charger does not come as standard. Not much else.

+ This Satnav is very easy to use. The verbal instructions are clear and give you plenty of notice before a turn etc. My wife uses the unit on her motorbike and doesnt even need to look at the screen!
When I use it in the car the maps are very clear and features like the built in camera, where fuel stops are and speed camera alerts are great. I was a 'satnav sceptic' but this unit is first class and I am now converted - it takes all of the stress out of going somewhere new in the car.
If you are a sceptic like I was, buy one and be surprised just how good it is.

- The in-car power supply has to slot into the satnav cradle on the windscreen, which means that you either have to leave it in place all of the time (which is unslightly) or fiddle about to attach it to the cradle then pull it back out when you've finished. Other than that, nothing.

+ This is my first satnav and I'm very impressed with it. As yet I can't see if there is an option to update maps or not. I love the photo option - great for revisiting odd locations eg if in open countryside where no postcodes exist!

- None I can think of.

+ As said above, its so easy to use, that even a novice like myself can work out what to do. The screen size is pretty impressive by comparison to other models I have looked at and is great for being able to see exactly where I am and where I am heading for.

- It seems to have a habit of sending me along some very peculiar and little used routes, which I would not have chosen myself. I cant understand why it doesnt direct me along the main A roads which in my view would be quicker and easier, even if the route it directs me along is actually shorter in distance. It can also be annoying when I have to follow a diversion as it keeps trying to get me to turn around and on one occasion carried on demanding I do this for several miles! I still think this is a great model though and wouldnt change it despite these little foibles.

- No facility to return via the same route as followed on the outward journey if it was a multi-stop trip.

- The Navpix feature serves little more purpose than showing, a feature to solve a problem that isn't there.
Getting the traffic reports to work is a little tricky.
Girlfriend agrues with it constantly but don't think that is a problem with the Navman.

+ Bought as upgrade from ICN520, very impressed. Larger screen makes it easier to use, gives far more detail when approaching junction/turn. Photo location option works well, take a snap & find your way back with ease.

+ The text to speach function.

- Some functions doesn't work (TMS, etc) I have contacted NavMan support and the help I got was the worst posible. Not helpful at all. The maps are not updated and very often wrong. Much more often than the TomTom I've tried.
I really regret my purchase.
I will never buy from Navman again

+ Good screen, auto zoom, handy information such as time / distance remaining readily available, quick re-routing. Spoken instructions very informative, made even better with spoken street names - a real bonus (and sometimes quite amusing pronounciation!)

- Seems to take a long time to charge - no mains charger included (but usb mains chargers available cheaply on the web).
Bluetooth connection for the hands-free phone is very picky on the type of phone you have (look at the Navman website for compatible devices, and if yours isn't there, assume it won't work)
If you're an infrequent user, you need to turn the unit off completely by holding down the power button for about 10 secs, otherwise it goes into a sort of standby mode and will gradually drain the battery; the downside of fully switching off is that the software will need to load when you turn it back on, so it takes more time (and it loses your bluetooth phone connection).

+ Easy set up and use. Clear display

- Maps slightly out of date - ie roads completed bearly 2 years ago are not shown. Accuracy can be 20 metres or so out.

+ clear display, easy to mount/dismount, light, long battery life, traffic warning system very good, spoken and display instructions/info very good. eoropean maps already loaded.

- traffic aeral a bit fiddly/untidy to look at and mount, have to download the user manual online. takes a while to boot up fully from the off position altho can be left in standby which is better.

+ Easy to use, simple menu, handy to have road names given in directions also.

- Took me up a 'no through' road whilst on navagation, not sure why the 'TMC doesn't work? Slightly damaged when purchased also.

+ Slimmer unit than most (ie: Tom Tom's) so easier to carry around with you. NavPix is a really good idea.

- The UK maps CLAIM to be Mid 2007 and yet they are still missing detail (ie: roads) that have been open for well over 2 years. The missing roads I have come across do exist on PC Pilot 2006 and others so there really is no excuse.

+ Large, easy-to-read screen. Voice annoucement of road names. European maps included. Navpix feature. Traffic reports. Avoid area feature. Multiple-stop trip planning. Trip logging (time taken, distance travelled, etc.).

- Touch screen response sometimes a bit hit and miss. I haven't tried a stylus yet.

+ This is my 3rd Navman. Never tried other brands before, but never felt like I needed to.
Reception on S90 is far greater than my outgoing N20.
Looks sleek & superb.
Now even easier to use!
For the right price, this is an absolute bargain!!

- very inaccurate when I tried to find a particular car park at Heathrow - nearly missed the plane
the use of 'a' in the voice over instead of 'A' when describing A roads is irritating

+ Using the menu ~ anyone could romp through the menu without any need to look at the instructions.
It has a great sized screen on a very compact body.
The Navpix feature is very useful ~ both as a pictorial way of saving the co-ordinates of a favourite location, and as a camera as well.

+ easy to use - even for a first timer, very accurate, loads of features, tried it out in Southern Ireland but will really test it out in Spain in the summer 2008. Can input post codes, street names or town / city centres. Good at locating car parks in Cork & Limerick!

- Seems to take ages when previewing your route as I haven't found a way to speed it up.

+ The Navman S90I is great! so easy to use and clear to view, being able to store favourites is also a bonus to save lots of time and the built in camera facility lets you clearly record places of interest for returning to at a later date. All round good product.

- My only minor complaint is that although I realise it takes me via the most direct route to my destination it has put me into a couple of road jams where I have been stuck for quite some time, so a road works alert or crash alert would have been a bonus!

- Gaps in the mapping that they are not honest about and are cagey when you ask them directly.
Haven't been able to get the TMS to work in 8 months since I bought it.

+ camera, fantastic idea and really useful, excellent maps, good safety camera database with alerts coming in plenty of time, audible warning when you do exceed the speed limit (so i believe have never needed this function - honest :) Live road traffic updates

+ This is my first SatNav so cant compare it with using others.
It does have very good reception and I can leave it on the car seat and it still works.
Clear display and turn by turn instructions. Accurate.
Good value package for Europe, traffic and cameras.
Definite recommendation

- Not easy to type in search address with big fingers. need to use a stylus or finger nail.
It is not intuitive to use and takes some time to get the best from it.
Traffic alerts come and go too fast not allowing time to read.
Navpix only a gimmick.
Traffic aerial trails across dashboard.

- There was a small lag (especially when we were using it in Italy) between where it says you are and where you actually are so you get to junctions and slip roads before it says you are there. Once you realise this you can allow for it but at first it is annoying.

+ Navpix is great, re-calculates very quickly, very easy to use, looks stylish, we took it to France with no maps, and it's accuracy was very good

- It is a little large to carry around with you and around the M25 with all the roadworks, it went a bit mad, but it did get us home

+ The NavPix is absolutely superb,Bluetooth,Safety Camera database and free live traffic info. Over all, an
excellent purchase.

- Didn't come with mains charger (optional extra)

- Maps loaded are out of date and I didn't have time to download ( or even work out how to) before i went away. Instruction voice is irratating. I can see why tom tom have brought a a voices package. Maybe should have gone for that model

- Poor pronounciation, particullarly of 'A' roads. Traffic hold-up warning system doesn't work.

+ The pictures are great for my work. Lots of maps and the user interface is helpful and well laid out. Linking with mobile is also good.

+ Certainly a good product and picks up routes exceptionally well. Just done a very long journey and the route followed was excellent for speed/distance travelled.

- Screen difficult to see in bright sunlight. Insists on recommeding rather unsuitable roads (very narrow and unsuitable for large cars) from my home to that of my son. Doesn't like us taking a preferred route and advises we do a U turn asap!!

+ Extremely user friendly, Very well designed displays with driver information easily accessed when driving without being dangerous (one button press). Sound is excellent. Photo sustem work extremely well and if very accurate. Viewing screen graphics are very good and especially when compared with other makes. Nabman have taken on board the problems with previous systems and have mastered the end product.

- turned in on for 2nd tme and it came up speakng rusian or polish or something could not navigate back to english had to leave it off for 10 mins before being able to re-set, if it sppens again i will be very annoyed
also no concise manual it tells you to dowload it from the internet, so i went to try and foud it easy enough all 133 pages!!! i'm not printing all that off looks like i wil be siting in front the computer reading with the sat nav beside me

- having to take it on and off the screen and hide it---not its fault! The traffic information signal can be rather hit & miss --sometimes one receives it other times nothing.

+ Excellent value for money. The S90i has good, clear maps and give clear directions. There is a built in TMC unit and a camera which is a useful extra feature.

- It doesn't give your speed as you are travelling, and the car charger lead is only designed to fit if the unit is positioned in a particular way (which is only the case in certain cars). I have had to purchase an additional lead to get round this. No mains charger is included, but this can be purchased separately.

- sometimes the retracing alternative route from satellite can take too long, its ok when you know the route but if you were giving it too a friend or parent for first time around london they would go the long route

+ Good camera, easy to use, European maps included and Worldwide maps available from the Navman site (discount if you register your product). Quite a few potential colured display settings and also gives local points of interest, like garages, eateries etc. Nice size and super screen, would recommend.

- Cannot do much with it in the house unless standing by a suitable window, which can be awkward if planning a trip. Would have preferred worldwide maps to be included and paid a bit extra.

+ Clear instructions. Good display. Fast aquisition time. Very accurate GPS (though some of the map data is inaccurate e.g. junction of A580 eastbound to M6 southbound).

- Awkward to use hands free calling. Also some menus which are used often require several steps to operate.
