Miele Prestige Plus 6 reviews: Front Loading loading, 5kg capacity washing machine

+ Excellent choice of washing programs plus control over extra water if needed and selective spin speed. Other good points are 180 degree door and the hand wash cycle. Compared with other washing machines Miele has a sense of aura about it.

- Prefer the door to open to the left and for the dispenser to be on the right hand side.
Will not do a fast spin on my most used progarmme a 40% wash on minimum iron cycle, would like to have been able to have that option. Also does not do a 50% wash on the cotton cycles.

- Spinning is a little noiser than I expected (though still much quieter than my old Hotpoint)

+ The Express wash programme lasts for 32 mins and displays a 'time remaining' so you can plan around it. Also the 1300 spin alllows the washing to be almost dry as it comes out. I haven't used all of the programmes yet as i have only purchased the machine a few weeks ago however, there are many programmes to choose from (not too many!) which should cater for most of your washing needs.

- You require 1 bar of water pressure to make the machine work and as we have low pressure where we live, we did wonder if it would work. This is something I hadn't picked up on before purchase but we have managed to sort that one out. It's more expensive than the standard range of machines available but bought it on the basis that Miele make machine 'built to last for 20 years'. Other than that I haven't found any bad points so far.

- Only does one spin on a quick cycle. But I will get use to that. Clothes still come out well spun though. Expensive to buy but hopeing with the fab build will last as long as they claim 20 years under normal use.

+ It has so many settings that are great for my clothes. The timer is brilliant. It holds a lot of washing. So simple to use. I love the fact that the drum rotates occassionally until you unload it, in order to reduce creasing. Really thought through well, and I can genuinely say it's the Rolls Royce of washing machines!

+ The Miele Prestige looks smart and the overall measurement was perfect, fitting the space exactly where the previous Zanussi machine was positioned. Many of the washing machines were just a few centimetres too wide. I like the extremely easy controls and the precise way that the door closes. My previous machine could be opened very easily by a small child. This washer requires that the 'on' button is pressed prior to the door button, then the door clicks open.

- Some items that were previously washed on a cold cycle are now being washed at the correct temperature and are coming out still stained.
After the initial first use of the machine the door refused to open. I contacted Miele who informed me that I had to open the small door at the front by inserting a spoon. Then I had to ignore the thing that looked like a petrol cap and pull on a tag. This clicked the door open, then the door had to be slammed shut. I haven't had the problem since but the German technology amused my family and me.

- The flexible waste pipe tended to slip out of the fixed down pipe into which it was draining until I secured it with wire. Before I did, some of the waste water leaked on to the floor.
It is not possible to set a delayed start to the wash programme.

+ Build quality, reliability, longevity. We run a guest house with 6 rooms worth of washing to turn round every day - we need to be confident that the product can cope with this punishment for a number of years.

- Price - almost twice the price of more mainstream competitors from Hoover, Zanussi etc. That said, it will probably last twice as long. Generally you get what you pay for, and this product is no exception.

+ Well, for one, it works... But we have only had it for a month or so! So only time will tell how good value for money the maching actually is. Although it feels much more solid than our old, much cheaper..., one. I find the programmes easy to use. Despite not being totally quiet it is a vast improvement from anything we have ever had before.

+ Looks very stylish. I can tell it's much better quality than my last machine, has lots of useful programmes (although I probably will not use half of them!). It's very straightforward and simple to use and although this is one of the cheapest Miele machines on the market, I really do not think you should spend any more as this machine has everything on it you could possibly use for domestic use in a household. My machine is used every day and I am very pleased with it.

- The manual recommends you only put a little washing in the machine at any one time. I am used to loading up my machine - probably the reason washers don't last very long with me. I am being careful with this one and following the manufacturer's guildelines.

+ It is quiet - I've never had a washing machine that is as quiet as this one, even on a 1300 spin. The short cycle time option of 32 minutes is amazing. I've only had the product for two weeks, but every wash has been excellent, cleaness, and with the fast spin towels and bedding dry so quickly. I only considered buying a Miele after using a friends when mine broke down - I was an instant convert. I'm sure is will be well worth the extra money over time.

+ Solidly built machine with adequate features for most wash situations. I am expecting this machine to be very reliable but it's much to early to say yet.

- There are two minor niggles. One is that when using the tablet type wash powder, placing the tablets inside with the clothes at load time, often the washing tablets find their way to a trap point between the drum door seal and the window in the door. Consequently they are not broken up and dissolved into the main wash. The answer is to use the netting bags provided with the tablets. Second, the rubber door seal traps some water after washing which needs mopping out. Both very minor issues really.

+ I bought this machine based on others' reviews and the reputation of Miele. I wanted a durable machine, as I have robust and curious young children, one of whom broke the plastic part of the door hinge of my old Siemens machine and broke off a removable plastic cover. I have not had the Miele long, with its metal door hinge, so it's still pristine. The free 5 year guarantee clinched the purchase as this is not the cheapest machine, although I'm happy to have the cheapest model. Lots of buttons and features are not as important to me as quality. Enough technology to be sufficiently child-proof.

- No bad points notched up; hopefully none to come. Will need strong muscles if we move house.

+ This machine is the most basic model that Miele make but has everything anyone could want with a washing machine. It is solid, quiet, easy to use, more than enough programmes, spin speed and options. Highly recommended.

- The machine does not look too "trendy" - rather old fashioned in appearance compared to some on the market.

+ This is a relatively unsophisticated machine by modern standards, but that doesn't stop it doing an exceeelnt job. It is quiet, efficient and good value for money. There is no doubt it is a quality product and we would be extremely surprised if it didn't give us long and relaibale service. We like this machine a lot.

- It doesn't have a buzzer when the cycle ends. We miss this, but it's hardly a matter of great importance and we knew this before we purchased it.
