Logitech Harmony 555 Universal Remote Control

+ Very easy to use once it is set up. The whole family adapted extremely quickly. The set up is very thorough with a great database.

- Some default values could have been better, especially for the novice user.

+ Works great with almost every bit of AV kit i have!

- Can be hard to set up the Activities cotrol, and also doesn't work with my PS3 (but then this is more Sony's fault for making the PS3 Bluetooth only and not IR)

+ It takes a bit of understanding to start with. Once the penny drops the remote is very good and does everything that is required and the help button works extremely well. The more you delve the better it works. Would recommend to anyone who is prepared to take their time and learn to use it.

+ set up is straight forward if youu are computer literate otherwise i would suggest looking elsewhere for a universal remote

- using the device for task it only recognises on or off therfore you cannot switch between actions e.g listen to a CD and then switch to watching a movie file without first switching everything off and then switching units on for the next task.

+ Now I only need one remote instead of 6! The harmony 555's ability to be programmed from other remote controls enabled me to program from my Multiledia HDD remote which was not possible to find the program codes for. I just pointed it at the Harmony 555 and it logged all the button functions from by Multimedia remote!
The Software that comes with the Harmony is simple to use, and let me tweak in any part of the remote functions I liked, including how fast it operated when I pressed a button-cool!
The quality of the remote is very high and I think will last for years. The back-lit buttons and LCD display in orange is easy to see when the room lights are out - as in watching TV in the dark. When you pick the remote up, it switches on the backlight automatically! I think it can handle something like 15 remotes, so this is way more than I would use, but gives me plenty of room for adding more later.
This remote is the business and is the only one I now need for absolutely every infra-red remote control device I have or will need!! Recommended.

+ works well with all my devices, it is smart looking and you can reprogram or tell it to learn whenever you need

- Takes a long time to set up fully and easily gets out of sync if you have a lot of equipment.
