LG WMF1403FD reviews: Front Loading loading, 9kg capacity washing machine

+ Very quiet in operation, means it can be left on overnight, or put on early morning, low power consumption should help with the electric bills, direct drive drum should be more reliable, certainly doesn't jump about the floor like an off-centre belt driven unit.

- A bit deeper than normal machines means it sticks out an extra inch or so from under the worktop, lots of gimmicky lights and twee "I've finished now" music makes it like a scene from ET

+ Wash your complete wash basket in one go!

- Written instructions not very easy to follow.

+ Drum size, laundry results, energy and water efficiency. It is quiet and there is virtually no vibration even when spinning at 1400RPM provided the machine is level. Able to wash large individual items that would be impossible in a smaller drum. Also can wash all our towels and bathrobes in a single load rather than multiple loads. Washing, rinsing and spinning results are the best we've had from a washing machine even on the quick cycles (with reduced load weight). Grandaughter is entertained by the music and lights when entering the cycle information and at end of cycle plus bigger drum and door allow the cats to watch their blankets being washed.

- Documentation provided is too brief and does not clearly explain the various functions of the machine. Some of the cycle times are quite long. The "cotton quick" cycle is about 1 hour 30 minutes for lightly soiled clothes and the "quick 30" cycle is limited to a 2Kg load.

+ Very quiet in comparison to the previous belt driven washing machine that we owned. Even on full spin you just don't hear it.
The increased capacity has reduced frequency of washes, not tried a duvet yet but sure it is capable.
Just love the tune it plays when it finishes the washing cycle - those with one will know what I mean !

- Hard to fault really, I have had the washing machine for 2 months now and the only thing I miss is the fast-forward feature that my previous machine had, which could shorten a pre-set wash cycle.

+ The ability to set a favourite wash cycle.

- When switches off. All power lights are off, so if somebody else does a wash and you are not aware. The washing stays in the machine.

+ The drum size is excellent, but also important points, that could not be 'selected' above, were: low noise (it's very quiet), reliability (our previous LG didn't go wrong in 10 years), easy to use, energy efficient and looks very good.

- None noted yet on the latest machine, although we were intially irritated that the door opens the opposite way to the previous which we were not expecting.

+ great large drum, washes well, pretty quiet so I find I need the tune which lets you know that the cycle has finished and certainly cuts down on the amount of wash loads.

- the programme dial and spin dial are fine and easy to use but the option button can be a little unclear as to what changes the selection has made exactly particularly if you are in a rush, however, quick enough to reset and start again if you get it wrong.

+ Large drum size means fewer washes for us, and hence saving in electric and water consumption. The controls are well thought out and it is very easy to customise a particular wash. Vibration free spin means it does not travel all over the floor like our previous machine (also an LG).

- Not a bad point really but larger than standard depth means that it will not fit into many kitchens. Not a problem for us, but my daughter would have bought the same machine had it fitted into a standard space.

The clothes are alot drier at end of spin cycle so this is reducing the amount I am using the drier

+ I was a bit concerned as I'd read some bad reviews especially with regard to long cycle times, despite this there is a short 40 degree wash that is more than adequate for my needs and takes approx 50 minutes depending on the options chosen. There are many options with regard to changing the temperature, intensity of the wash and the spin speed that I never have trouble finding the right combination. The huge drum means I do less washes and that has got to be a bonus

- Haven't found any yet except you can fit so much laundry in the massive drum it's hard to get it all dry!!

+ It might look like something from another planet, but once you've used it a couple of times it's so easy to understand. The 9 kg drum is amazing, it's taken a superking size duvet and thoroughly cleaned it (even though the operating instructions advise kingsize maximum).

+ Easy to use, cleans clothes beautifully - doesn't crease them, quiet, just so easy to do a huge amount of washing in a very short space of time. I have set my favourite wash cycle and will always use it - an hour and a half for 9kg of washing. Wonderful! I love the way you can start the machine and then stop it when you realised how long the cycle would take and keep re-programming it until you find something that suits you. I can't believe I'm raving about a washing machine - but I love it!

- Would have been good for the display to show the time for the wash before starting... but that's just a tiny detail.

+ Excellent capacity - it has reduced the number of times we have to do a washload each week. The large opening makes loading and unloading very easy. I especially like the fact that the machine tells you when the wash cycle will be finished so you don't have to keep checking on it. Very quiet spin cycle. All in all a great machine.

- Haven't found any yet, other than having to remember to set the temperature, which isn't too much to ask!

+ Really good machine. Takes a good size load, including summer and winter duvets!! The noise is very low and the programmes are easy to understand and use. (It plays tunes at certain stages i.e. starting stopping etc. which amuse the children, both young and old!!)

- Because of the build it does stick out from under worksurfaces more than conventional washing machines BUT a price worth paying. Only had machine a few months so cannot comment on reliability.

+ Drum size is brilliant it cuts down the nember of washes dramatically. Build quiality is exceptional and everything shuts with a satisfying clunk. It is unbelievably quiet and the wash comes out very, very clean. It sings when you turn it on and then again when it finishes your wash! It's also good looking.....
