+ It is easy to use, looks good, does exactly the job I wanted it for at a very reasonable price

- Instruction manual not very explicit and therefore hard to understand. I ended up experimenting with the recorder and once I got it right the machine is so simple to use.
Would be ideal if the recorder was also made in silver colour

+ Once someone who is au fait with how to operate the recorder shows one how to use it, it is really easy to use and the overall design is very good.

- The written instructions are to say the least mind boggling,most people I should imagine just need to set the timer,record,delete and re-record. Manufacturers need to employ someone other than an engineer etc.to write down the instuctions as the latter always seems to over complicate things and leave out the main points thinking that ' well I know you should do that next' when obviously we don't.

+ Compact with a lot of features - easier to use than some other brands I have helped friends with and overall, it does what I want now that I have got the hang of it.

Auto set up does everything (even sets the clock!!).
The only thing it doesn't do is set the option for AV2 (adding cable/sky) and obviously sound and picture option.

- A lot of information about what the LG can do, was a bit daunting (Put me off setting the player for a month!!.)
Then again that's the reason why I bought the player, and as you can see from above, it's actually quite easy.

+ It is quite easy to use.

- The maual could be better and I am finding quite hard to set the machine to record on a timer and also the clock on the machine should be a brighter display.

+ Contrary to some of the other opinions I have seen on this product, I find the LG DRT389H very easy to set up and use. It is certainly much easier to copy VCR tapes onto DVD than a FUNAI combi machine I tried.

+ Very easy to set-up and use. Recording is ever so simple with the EPG, it records entire series with one push of a button and it'll record both parts of a film seperated by the news with one push of a button. And, this is brilliant, if 2 recordings clash it'll find one of your programmes repeated later in the week and record it then instead - amazing!

- There's a 'page up and down' for the channel list in the EPG but no 'page forward' to move from midday to midnight quickly; you have to keep pressing the button. There is a 'date change' to jump 24 hours or more but nothing (that I've found yet) to jump forwards a couple of hours at a time.

+ appears to do everything; only recorder to record DVDs on(?), others are Hard Drive. Lots of options for connectivity to other equipment.

- manual not clear as to which leads to connect where. Translation not brilliant english. Takes some understanding because of new technology and is rather complicated. TV could do with a third Scart socket.
Response of TV remote seems slow.

+ I have Sky,but if you want just want Freeview then get this because you get a good quality freeview box and an excellent DVD recorder that's easy to set up and use.

- There is no product support and no way of getting any advice on instalation and set up. I had great problems in connecting ito my TV PVR system so I could use it as a DVD recorder for pre stored programmes.

+ No record failures. Much better than my previous Recorder, an Ellion, which often failed.

- you can only watch what you are recording, which is useless really.my friend has a hard drive recorder and she can watch one side and record another. so for me it is ok to watch a dvd on and for built in free view but notthr record side of things

- Much more complicated to set up than my previous one. The booklet with it is quite complicated. When the machine told me I needed to format the disc I had put in, I couldn't easily find out how to do that. other things were equally obscure in the booklet. I would have been totally lost without the help of a young neighbour and even he said it was not straight forward.

+ Accepts DivX and MPEG4 format PC DVDs. Accepts Windows FAT 16/32 format USB1 sticks. Has Firewire DV video input. Has HDMI. Has SCART. Has Aerial throughput. Has played all verified, non-corrupt content on all disks. Unbelievably, this has no serious bad points so far and (in my opinion) represents excellent value for features.

- a touch slow on the buttons on start-up/eject or load. Not a problem really, like a friend who, will be there slightly late. You grow accustomed to it and adjust expectations.

+ Image & sound quality are excellent. Set up couldn't be easier. It's so easy to find everything you have recorded as everything is automatically labelled & you can review /edit/create chapters/delete recordings via thumbnail videos.

DVD+RW DISCS :- these are automatically finalised when taken from the machine. WHY? The whole point of a RW disc is that it can be used again and any recording on the disc that is not required can be recorded over. If there is material on the disc that is required to be retained THEN it can be finalised.

- The instructions take a bit of working out - we don't have children to work the thing for us!

+ VERY easy to set up, I followed instructions slowly & it works perfectly, VERY quick at responding to commands. Good Feature: when you want to watch what you have taped it previews each of the recordings for you so you can select the right recording

- We dont now have a digital feed to the tv in the bedroom(from the way u have to have it linked up) but we are looking to see about getting an adapter
