Absolutely superb product, for a 42" at this price producing such image quality it would be hard to beat. This was purchased for the bedroom as I couldn't justify spending what I did for the living room, i.e. a Sony. Although my next purchase should the Sony fail would be an LG based on the build quality and picture.
-
Out of box settings need to be tweaked. I suggest turning the 200hz motion flow off and all the other advanced settings, this will give you a much more natural looking image.

It is really easy to set up. Plenty of facilities for setting sound and picture to your liking. The 200hz really does make a different. The picture is very good. I really like the Simplink and how it works with my LG Bluray home cinema system.
-
It isn't really a bad point but the blacks could be slightly blacker and shadow detail could be slightly better. This is being really picky however because overall it is very good and when you take into account the price it is excellent.

We love the LG 42" tv we bought recently. The picture quality and sound is superb especially in HD. The look and design of the tv is fantastic. This is the second LG we have purchased, the first is in our games room, and we haven't got a bad word to say about them.

Great picture, USB2 connectivity (+DivX compatibility), good motion with both standard and hi-def (HD TV and Blu-ray look amazing), good on-screen menus, easy setup, decent blacks for an LCD, stylish looks, TV is light enough to hang on the wall easily (17kg for a 42" is LIGHT!)
-
No DLNA connectivity, manual is on a CDROM rather than supplied as a book (I understand the eco reasons for doing this, kinda, but surely it's less environmentally friendly to have to turn on my PC any time I want to read the manual!), remote control could be slightly better.

Picture quality. Great upscaling on standard TV broadcasts. DivxHD and MKV playback from usb. OSD features are amazing. Option to change menu icon for each connected device. Good collection of zoom modes. Easy to use picture calibration wizard.
-
USB socket is located high up on the side of the TV. This might be a problem for USB harddisks that require short usb cables. Basic features on USB playback (with only one full screen zoom mode, no pan and scan). Needs an extra fast forward level for longer films.

Very good picture quality
Energy efficient with auto energy savings and auto off, generates no heat (unlike my old plasma tv)
Works brillantly with the Playstation 3 (PS3)
Very easy to use menu, easy to move between different input sources (TV, PS3)
4 HDMI slots give plenty of scope for adding more stuff, 2 scarts allows you to plug in older tech (Video recorders, etc)
Plays DivX / XVid movies very well from an external USB hard drive
-
No HDMI cable is included (this is a problem with all TVs though)
Strange tinted blue surround on the TV casing which makes lifting the screen a little bit more of a delicate operation, but had no problem lifting the TV by myself as it is relatively light for its size.

TV rated as 5 stars in What Hi-Fi magazie. DIVX files play no problem via the USB port on this TV. Picks up .avi and .mkv files no problem and seems to upsacale them so you can't tell it's a DIIVX file unless it's pretty quality to start off with.
-
Picture quality is not as good as expected. Blu-ray discs don't look any better than normal DVDs on this TV. Sound at lower volumes has a background hiss. Doesn't cope with moving images very well despite the 200Mhz motion flow being set. Very disappointing. 'Buy cheap, buy twice' as the saying goes. Wish I'd bought a Sony or a Samsung.

Very hard to get a good image when watching normal TV as there is a lot of distortion around people, I expect this is due to the picture being transmitted at 50Hz and the processor being set for 200Hz, if you put in a proper high resolution film the picture is really good.

Decent sound if slightly underwhelming in the bass dept..otherwise clear and concise..ok for everyday tv use..indicitive to many LCD/Plasma TV's so not a huge problem. Probably the best sub £1000 42" LCd you can buy at the mment

This really is a stunning TV - I spent a long time researching which one I wanted, how much I wanted to spend, and considered most of the major brands. But this model came out on top every time - it is very stylish, has incredible picture quality (the 200Hz TruMotion feature really does make a difference) and totally transforms a living room. I would strongly recommend this set to anyone looking to purchase a new television as it offers very good value for money and is a brand that you can really trust.
I particularly like the manual power-off switch and the eco-mode (which is actually more comfortable to the eye when watching in a darkened room anyway), as this helps to ease the conscience a bit, and also its versatility. You'd be surprised how quickly you accumulate new gadgets that use HDMI connection technology so I think it is very important to have as many sockets as possible, as well as other media like Scart and Component connections.
Very easy to use and practical - I currently have it on a TV stand in my front room, but will probably wall mount at some stage as it is not heavy and doesn't look overbearing in the room. Having looked at Sony, Samsung, Phillips and Toshiba sets, this is definitely the best value one on the market at the moment and is worth every penny.
-
Minor issues - it does suffer from not having a paper manual in the box - I know many other purchasers have already mentioned this.
Not specifically about the TV, but I also bought the LG Blu-Ray BD370 Player at the same time. Wasn't so fond of this - recommend that if spending £700 on a TV, it is worth spending the extra to get a very good quality Blu-Ray player as well - now using a more expensive Panasonic which is much better.
Also a little tip - to avoid problems with the picture quality when using a Virgin+ (or Sky HD) or Blu-Ray players, make sure the TV is set to 'Just Scan' or 'Original' format, otherwise it is constantly trying to resize an image which is already fine and can cause some fuzziness. I thought there was something wrong to begin with but now know this was user error... the TV is excellent!!

Having a few problems with freeview reception on BBC 1/2, but think its not the tv's fault, although did'nt have this problem before. Otherwise no other bad points.

TV Buyers Guide
Manufacturer's Description
Blurred motion has finally met its match
LG TruMotion 200Hz uses a unique scanning backlight technology to achieve a more superior natural picture. The benefits of this feature is that it virtually eliminates motion blur and picture flicker, making the TV perfect for watching sport and fast action movies.
Customized modes for the content of your choice
LG TVs have three special modes (Cinema, Sport and Game modes) for enhanced picture and audio quality. These are easily accessible using the AV MODE hot key on the remote control.
The picture quality adjust system developed by the foremost experts in picture quality.
You’re the expert when it comes to adjusting the picture quality of your LG TV. The picture quality control guide program installed in LG LCD TV allows you to easily control the picture quality in following the adjust guide developed by visual specialists.
The power to control only the volume of voices
Sometimes when watching films it is difficult to hear voices over the background sound of their environment. The clear voice feature adjusts the sound balance to emphasise voices and reduce background noise.
Great sound is meant to be heard, not seen!
The front bezel works as a speaker, replacing the normal speaker grill. With the Invisible Speaker System, the speakers are embedded in strategic spots underneath and around the front bezel. They enhance the audio by increasing the ‘sweet spot’ to give a wider and richer sound field.
The Hub Of Your Entertainment World
DivX HD compatibility enables downloaded online videos and films to be played back in glorious high definition by connecting to the TV USB interface.
A Big Screen TV that Delivers Big Savings
The Backlight control function controls the brightness of the TV, while the Screen Off function lets you switch off the screen while keeping the sound alive. Stand by Mode 0 function sets your TV to a power saving mode where zero electricity is used. Added to these 3 basic power saving functions is the Intelligent Sensor function that controls automatically the brightness and the colour of the picture in accordance with the brightness and the colour of the viewing area. These are just some of the reasons why the majority of LG TVs have been certified by the Energy Saving Trust to save you money off your electricity bills.
