+ Once you've got the hang of it, it's quite easy to use and is a great alternative to a Sky plus box or a Tivo.

+ Easy to record, store and retrieve broadcasts. We like being able to record a whole series, and it's easy to delete if there's stuffI we don't want. Quite user-friendly overall, although some of the features seem a bit sophisticated. Early problems with humming noise on previous models seems to have been resolved, it's virtually silent. We are now ready for digital switchover, as this box can record one channel while we watch another.

- One scary incident when the (live) broadcast froze, and machine would not respond to remote control even to switch off. I switched it all off at the plug, re-started and it was fine. I just hope this was a one-off and is not going to recur.

+ Finally a recorder that is smart enough to program itself at start up i.e set time date. Brilliant press record and go feature do not have to select times it knows when program starts/finishes. No more discs that get corrupted or tapes being chewed. I recommend this machine to anyone who is unhappy with their dvd recorder/video recorder, you will never regret the decision if you buy this.

+ The upscaling functionality is very good. Another useful feature is the program serial link. The humax has plenty of disk storage space to store all the recorded programs. The only problem is finding time to watch all the recorded programs.
The twin recording functionality is also another positive point. The signal sensitivity is also very good.

- One of the bad points is the EPG has to be repopulated each time the device is activated from standby. This can be a nuisance especially when you want to quickly look at the program schedule. The EPG takes a while to be populated.
Another bad point is that the device takes a while (few seconds) to switch on from standby. You cannot be certain whether the remote had actually worked first time round.
User interface not very intuitive and has plenty of scope for improvement. Hopefully this will be addressed in future firmware updates.

Quiet - only time it is heard is at start-up.

+ Unit has a good size HDD and play back of recorded program is generally good. The size and looks of the unit are also good with the option of control buttons located under the covers.

- Unit is prone to momentary picture freeze and occasional lock ups which require the unit to be switched off and on again. Picture quality is a little blocky comparied to my previous Sony unit but i'm not using the HDMI socket so that might improve the quality. In play back mode there doesn't seem to be an option to start play back from a chosen time and to access the recorded program you have to go through a couple of menu options rather than having direct access from the controller.

+ Easy set up guide and a very simple machine to master. It's great to be able to record two programmes while watching another one, pausing live tv is also a bonus. I would recommend this product to anyone, fantastic!

Reserve the weeks recordings on Saturday and they are listed ready to watch when i've got a minute. Part watched programs remember where they were stopped.

+ Everything is fine. - a massive improvement on the old VCR. Others have complained about the noise problem but it seems to have been fixed...mine's silent.

- The Users' Manual came on a CD rather than in booklet form. The booklet format is essential for instant easy reference - a CD is quite inadequate. However, after I had enquired whether a Manual was available in booklet form, one was delivered - but it should have been provided automatically.

+ It's easy to use, and it's miles better than a vcr, no tapes to use. You can record a whole series of programmes witch is brilliant as it saves you having to remember to record individual programmes.
