Hotpoint WML540 reviews: Front Loading loading, 6kg capacity washing machine

- The installation instructions were not clear. It said "Remove the 2 protective screws and the rubber bush with the respective spacer, situated on the rear of the appliance". There was a diagram showing the 2 screws and the external bar, but I would have liked clarification of "the respective spacer" in particular; also I had never heard of a rubber bush!
We had to use a wrench, and if the instructions had said "remove the 2 screws using a wrench" this would have been clear.

- quite noisy - also if you pause the machine the door automatically unlocks - if a child were to open this the water would pour out!

+ Bought it because I thought it was similar to a previous machine that had performed well. Best point is the larger door size.

- Its on for a lot longer time across all wash types, mainly due to the fact that its a cold fill only. To obtain efficiency on all wash loads I still have to read the book for setting choices as you can't just pick temperatures and spin speeds to suit as the machine has restriction rules built into it.

+ I love this washing machine! It is fantastic! The colour of it is fab and ease of use is incredible. If I had to buy another washing machine tomorrow then it would be this one again.

- Not sure if I like the plastic cover at the bottom front of the machine, where you get to the filter.. We have knocked ours off twice now.
I'm not a fan of the cold fill only machines. The machine is starting from cold water, hence more use of the heater, hence more use of your electric.

- 40 degree cotton washing taking nearly 2 hours isn't great, but the clothes do look really clean after.

+ Great value. Cheaper here than anywhere else and by quite a long way.

- A bit complicated to work out as there is a seperate temperature dial/spin speed. Previous hotpoints have had temp set to cycle. Bought it for my parents. Mum finding it a bit hard to get to grips with.

+ The Machine has an EKO wash which we use a lot overall we are happy with the machine

+ Looks good and works well. It has a really handy eco friendly 30 min cycle and also has crease reduction on the non-eco cylcles. Has a large drum capacity so can hold lots of washing and up to a 1400 spin leaving cothes almost dry.

- You can not use the crease reduction with the eco friendly cycles.

+ cold wash cycles are very good and clothes come out just as clean as when you use a hot wash. machine looks good and very easy to use.

+ Did not realise how poorly my old washing machine was untill I used my new machine for the lst time.
My machine was quicker, washed better and altogether much quieter.

+ Has produced some excellent washes of a full variety of clothes types. As quiet as I'd expect from a new machine (although a road digger is quieter than my old washing machine!). As straightforward to program as could be. One of the few machines that have the full woolmark specification. The grey model was considerably cheaper than the white version and actually looks good anway.

- The temperature and spin setting knobs don't have a clear fiducial mark on them - so a bit of peering required to check the setting is correct- but nothing that a dab of white paint wouldnt correct

+ There is a separate on/off button to the start button and they light up so you know you have turned it off.
Adjustable wash temperature means you can adjust nearly every programme to required temperature.
Energy Efficiency is good
Fast spin so it takes less time to dry the clothes after and you can slow it down if you want to.
Mini load option is great if you need to was a few things but can't make up a full load of that colour.

- The buttons are proud of the front so I have turned it off by leaning on them accidently.
I haven't yet found how to remove the inside of the powder drawer to clean it out so I could be difficult to clean if it is fixed.

+ After having a machine that was unreliable this makes a refreshing change, it's early days yet but so far so good. I have read a few reviews stating this machine is noisy, far from it, and you can always close the door if it bothers you that much. Simple fact is it's a pretty cheap machine and for that money it has great features and comes with a decent warranty if anything was to go wrong. I would certainly recommend it.
