Hotpoint Ultima WMD960 reviews: Front Loading loading, 8kg capacity washing machine

+ we have only had the machine a few months,but we find the machine good at the moment.

+ Easy to use, super quiet even on 1600 spin. Good price for all the features. Has extra stuff like child lock & variable spin from 100 upto 1600. Also does a non heat eco wash. fastest wash cycle is about 20mins. Count down timer & delay wash programme too - all in all would recommend.

- The shortest wash cycle on my old machine was 15mins!! but that was the only good thing about my old machine - so this is well worth the compromise

+ Plenty of different programmes. Quiet. Previously had Hotpoint machines and happy to continue with Hotpoint.

- The instructions don't show which programmes correspond to the programme symbols shown on labels in clothes which is just a bit of a nuisance.

+ Bigger drum size excellent for family use. 1600 spin cycle means less time to dry whether on the line or in the tumble dryer. Love being able to see at a glance how long is left on the cycle. Beeping when the cycle is finished so it doesn't matter where I am in the house it reminds me so washing doesn't get left in the machine. I could go on!!

+ i mostly like the amount of different settings on the machine, it also washes the clothes 100% clean

- it makes quite a loud noise on the spin not much better than my old one..

+ so many different cycles to choose from, every wash event has been catered for, I often only have a very small wash and 30 min fash wash is great for that,
also the bedding cycle is excellent I feel everytime that it couldn't get a cleaner, fresher or whiter I love my crisp white cottons.
the wool wash has been magic , nothing worse than washing woolens by hand and the gentle spin is perfect for them.

- The door opening to put the powder in is good size but removing it to clean is very difficult and consider is a bad design.
As the machine is ageing the noise from it is increasing slightly.

+ its so quiet that i forget its on, washes well and clothes are well spun even on a lower spin speed good features lots of choice

+ Lots of programmes that mean you can do a small wash, or a short wash etc. Lovely big drum means you can get in bigger loads than average. It looks good and the buttons are easy to use. Washing action is quiet.

- I do wonder if the long programme lengths on some washes are really necessary. I almost always use the reduced time programmes and my wash is extremely clean. Can be noisy when spinning a big load.

+ This machine is very quiet compared with my other washing machines. The fact that it is a cold fill concerned me when purchased, however l can say that it cleans just as well and saves money on hot water.

+ The drum size has been very useful, allowing a single duvet to be washed at home. The spin efficiency has also helped reduce the drying time of all the clothes.

+ Very easy to use with buttons allowing you to reduce temperature of wash if required. I like the fact that it remembers the wash I use most frequently and suggests that as the wash when the machine is turned on. Also very easy to clean with soap compartment coming out ;leaving a relatively smooth area to wipe out inside the the machine

- Not sure how to use pre wash, It appears that you have to put more washing powder in the main powder area as there is not an area for pre-wash then choose a 90 degree cotton wash, and reduce the temperature on the separate button at the side.

+ You can get loads more washing in this machine (8kg) and it's no bigger externally than our previous machine (which wasn't small with a 6kg load). Digital display is relatively easier to use, although not as simple as a dial that you always just set to 5 apparently! It also has a good choice of cycles, although 90% of the time we seem to use the same one. Good service and price from Whitebox too. Our original supplier let us down and while Whitebox was a little more expensive, delivery was on the day and time requested.

- 1600 spin speed does mean the machine moves around a little and can be noisy at the end of the cycle. Don't hear it during the wash though, and at least you know when it's close to the end!

+ I like the drum size - can fit in more than with my last washing machine.
1600 spin cycle means that the clothes come out only slightly damp and dry very quickly. On the flip side the faster the spin the more vibration there is through the floor and walls and next floor up. And yes, it is all level and properly installed.

- The rinse cycle takes 39 minutes, and is actually 2 rinses. In my opinion, It's just too long. I expect this to take 10 minutes at the most. I use the rinse cycle for washable nappies before putting them through the main cycle. I also wash towels and clothes together and separate the towels out at the end to condition the clothes using rinse cycle. The 60 degree wash cycle takes 2 hours. I've never had a washing machine that even came close to that!

- length of cycle - if you choose quick wash it is half a load of washing you put in so pointless really

+ Would recommend this product - feels sturdy and is very simple to use. On the 1600 spin cycle the items come out almost dry. So far it has been a 'good buy'. The service and delivery from Whitebox have been excellent and we would definately buy from this company again.

- The only 'minor' bad point would be that on the end spin cycle, the machine seems be be very noisy, but maybe thats because for the rest of the cycle it is so quiet that I sometimes have had to check that the washing machine is actually on!

+ This washing machine is brilliant! It does everything you want from a machine, its energy efficient, has a wide range of programs but you don't need to have a degree in computer science to understand it, it has a large drum so you can get loads of clothes in it at one time and its really, really quiet. If you want a new machine this one is a goodie!

- When it says there's only a minute left on the cycle, don't believe it... a minute does tend to last a bit longer than 60 seconds, but its such a small thing it really doesn't hamper the experience at all

+ Pretty quiet, lots of options, easy to use. Very good results overall, including on the Eco setting.

- A bit annoying that the default setting for cottons is high temperature, meaning that you need to remember to adjust it down, rather than bump it up. So there's a risk of boiling by default.

+ Large drum capacity, eco friendly cold water fill, looks good. Easy to programme, with lots of options. very quiet during cycle and spin.

- Very long wash programmes, although a 30 minute wash is available most cycles take over an hour.

+ LARGE DRUM SIZE SO CAN DO WASHING IN 1 GO INSTRAD OF 2. SO QUIET YOU WOULDNT KNOW IT WAS ON AND IT IS VERY SIMPLE TO USE. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND.

+ Good load capacity, Super Silent - and it is. Does seem well made, and is easy to use - doesn't require a doctorate to work it. Very good spin speed and due to it's weight it doesn't dance around the room.

- Not really any I've noted yet, it's a heavy machine so get friends, neighbours to help install it.

- No wash cycle below 30 degrees, would like a handwash cycle.

- 1. A bit noisier than I would have hoped.
2. When I set the washing and reduce the temp to 30C and then follow-up with another identical wash, it defaults back to a higher temperature and I have to re-set it back to 30C. This is every single time unfortunately!

+ I previously had a Hotpoint ultima so the prgrammes are similar and therefore have had no trouble getting used to this one. The faster speed is great.

- No handwash cycle and when the machine is on fast spin everything vibrates in the near vicinity and its quite noisy.

+ Wash cycles are not too long. Drum size is good. I like the 1600 spin. The child lock facility is great. I like that you know exactly how long is left on the cycle. The delay start option is fantastic so you don't have to leave wet washing in the machine for too long.

+ I have found this machine really easy to use, love the HELLO when it is switched on. Easy to follow instructions, press the buttons to the required program and off you go. The spin cycle is much quieter than my old model, but be aware its not super silent!

- The only gripe I have is when you want a quick wash on the 30mins cycle, you can only have it on 30 degrees which is a bit of a niggle if you have something that could be done with washing quickly and at a hotter temperature. This cycle also has the highest spin of 800 which I then change for a faster spin when its finished. But other than that I have been completely happy with the machine.

+ Large drum capacity, one load is equivalent to two loads in my old machine! Easy to adjust the programme to suit your requirements, changing spin speed and water temperature for example.

- Spin cycle is a little noisy, however it does spin faster than average so that's probably the only reason why.

+ When I first used the machine I kept looking in the drum to check that it was still working as it was to quiet. Whilst I have read reviews that the time to end of cycle was not very accurate, I believe this relates to the spin protection system. From my experience, the timer continues to count down even though the machines safety feature has cut in and extended the time due to an unbalanced load in the machine. This is a positive as the machine continues to operate at safe levels to ensure machine is not damaged.

+ As mentioned, easy to use, programme choice and temperature choice. It is a very quiet machine and I am extremely pleased with the washing results. The drum size is a bonus!

+ Good range of programs which you can alter and save with your own preferences. Also found it very easy to use didn't need manual. Finding the large drum great, only had 5kg machine before and with super king size bedding used to take three loads, now can do it in one. Nice looking machine and nice size, fits under work top better than old one. Would recommend,

- More noisy than I thought it would be but 1600 spin (previous machine 1200), but can ignore it and clothes come out almost dry.
Also I have to agree with other reviews that the timer is not very accurate, waited a good 5 mins when machine said only 1 min to go but not a big enough problem to put me off the machine.

+ Very quiet when in full spin, can now leave the kitchen door open when the washine machine is on.

- It seems to be storing waste water in the pipes making the clothes smell if there in there for a period of time, although this could be my sewage pipes rather than the machine.

- Timer is completely useless - always under estimates the wash time remaining. Also, the case is a little flimsy - we manage to dent it simply by moving the machine into position!
