Hotpoint Ultima WMD960 reviews: Front Loading loading, 8kg capacity washing machine

- Some of the cycles are quite lengthy and you don't seem to be able to put washing in for a quick spin only.

+ I LOVE THIS MACHINE. The big drum, the quiet operation, the 'A' rated wash that really is 'A' rated, the Bed and Bath wash that fits a single duvet in/ all your bedding in one wash, the 1600 spin that means less time in the tumble dryer, easy to use, you can vary the temperature/spin, it looks good.........i could keep going on! My kids like the fact that it says Hello when you switch it on, and this means they want to load it! Fine by me. As I said I LOVE this washing machine.

+ VERY quiet. Can select your own programming and keep it in memory. Brilliant fast spin. Can reduce the overall time.

- I do wonder what will happen if the electronic programmer fails.

+ Loads of features, very quiet, huge drum size so plenty of room for family size loads. Best thing for me has got to be the spin - the clothes come out really dry. So dry that fleecy items feel as if they haven't been in the washing machine!

+ The press button dial for selecting wash cycles rather than the old clock type dial.

- wash cycles seem rather long. some are over 2 hours.

+ Very easy to use with a large drum which makes it ideal for a large and busy family. It is so quiet, it makes more noise filling with water and emptying than it does spinning! It has a great selection of cycle times (again making life easier for a busy family needing things in a hurry) and the 1600 spin means things take less time drying.

- The fast cycles don't include spin time on their time estimates so they actually take longer than expected

+ The load size is fantastic only downside is I can't fit it all on my washing line!! It has a good selection of programmes which can be taloired to your needs.

- The spin noise is a little loud but as the machine is in my garage it doesn't bother anyone.

+ The LED cycle display makes seeting cycles very fast and easy. Also makes the cycles almost infinitely variable.

- Door does not open back to a flush 180 degree position

+ Extremely happy with this machine. After lots of research for washing machines in our price range we chose this Hotpoint one and have not been disappointed! Fantastic 30 degree wash, so quiet you forget it's on (until it spins), great drum size, delay timer etc etc. I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who wants value for money.

- Only fault is that the soap dispenser seems a little flimsy.

- Not easy to move around when first installing as it has no wheels like my old machine.

+ Easy to use. Can vary the programmes to reduce washing time if wash is needed in a hurry or economy wash if you don't put a full load in (which automatically reduces time of cycle).

- Terrible rinse - washing powder always left on clothes after wash - even after changing from 2 tablets to 1 per wash all dark clothes come out with white powder on them. Also, drum size appears a lot smaller than expected - although it is larger than my previous machine it does not seem to take any more clothes.

+ very quiet in use, really cleans the clothes, very good spinner, clothes feel drier after washing.

- There are no bad points thus far with this machine, it is by far the best washing machine I have owned the best Hotpoint have produced. Three cheers for Hotpoint you really do get what you pay for. 10 .out of 10.

+ Very easy to use particularly when selecting the right program. Option to reduced load and washing time is excellent for those small wash loads that you need to do quickly.

- The timer does not reflect accurate time remaining of a cycle. ie when timer indicated 1 minute left I waited for near 5 minutes. Having completed a cycle if you accidentally bump the start button again the machine will start the cycle all over again.

+ Great value. Due the the 8kg capacity, our washing workload has reduced dramatically. The machine has virtually no noise compared to our last machine. It was easy to fit - took minutes. Its user-friendly - the electronic display is quite straight forward and looks good. The delay feature is fantastic. Very pleased.

- It does not always fully drain away the fabric conditioner.

- Somevery 'Iffy' programming of the cycle microprocessor results in a timer function that displays what appears to be almost random counting down and up of the cycle time and, frequently, considerable run-on past the last indicated cycle minute. The instruction manual contains no reference to these strange characteristics.

- It's to easy to stop the cycle, you just need to press the pause button with your leg.etc and it will stop, the pause button should be out the way.

- Child lock pointless - only locks when machine it's switched on (and you don't want to leave it on all the time!) and doesn't stop your child turning it on and starting a cycle. Also, no handwash cycle.

- The countdown timer lies. It can say you have 30 minutes to go and you go back 45 minutes later to find it still has 12 minutes to go???

+ This machine takes a large load very handy when you have 4 children.It is very quiet so suitable for night time washing. The child lock has come in very handy too. The programmes are very easy to select and the display is also good.

+ The Hotpoint WMD960 is a stylish AAA rated machine with an attractive facia featuring an LCD display and easy to use controls.Currently available in three colourways (Aluminium,Graphite and of course White).The huge 8kg drum capacity was important for us as getting a large volume of work clothes cleaned is a priority and we don`t want to do a wash load every day.Before that scares you off,just let me say that it also has the advantage of a Half-Load function which will be a relief for those of you with a water meter !
In fact, there are 16 programmes in all including dedicated programmes for your delicates, woollens, silks.A Delay Timer which enables you to set the machine to take advantage of Economy 7.Variable temperature and Variable Super Silent Spin.And,for the safety concious,there is the all impotant Child Safety Lock.
All in all Simple, Efficient, Good value for money!

+ 30 minute wash, is great, are clothes does not get that dirty in our house, so a quick wash is very good.

+ Digital readout very useful and the push buttons are far easier than having to use dials. Versatile in the way that you can amend features within a particular programme ie spin speed, temperature.

- There is no way of levelling the back feet without moving machine away from the wall, but would imagine this is the same with all washing machines. There are 3 compartments in the pull out drawer but nothing in the instruction booklet to tell you exactly what to use in which (unless I have missed it!). Although it should have been included we didn't get an installation leaflet only the operating instruction booklet.

+ I couldnt believe just how quiet the machine was compared to my last Hotpoint one.
Seems to work fairly well at the moment.

- Rubber drum seal has been roughly cut round the edge at the top of the machine and there is metal showing through the rubber on the bottom of seal. I find this quite shoddy workmanship and if at all possible a replacement rubber seal wouldnt go amiss.
It couldnt seem to wash and spin a 8.0 tog duvet even though there was still plenty of room inside the drum so had to abandon the wash as the 1 minute left on the timer went on for 40 minutes+

+ easy to use, lots of scope to alter the temperature and spin settings.
holds loads of washing can get tons of towels in!

- a little noisy when spinning at 1600 revs but its had for it to be silent at that speed. The clothes come out only a little damp so they take no time to dry! overall its a great machine
