Hotpoint FDM550P Reviews: Freestanding, 60cm wide, White Dishwasher

+ Very Quiet, with versatile loading options due to being able to move the cutlery basket. Washes well and easy to use.

- Can't fit as many mugs and glasses in the top as my previous machine, tall glasses tend to fall over unless the mugs are placed in tightly to hold them up.

+ Good value for money - simple to use - clean design

- Cutlery basket not very user-friendly

+ Washes and dries very well (significantly better than the machine it replaced). I like the slots in the cutlery basket lid.

- I'd prefer it quieter. I removed the hinged flaps on the top shelf so that I could use it for tall glasses.

+ The eco wash cycle (though it takes a long time) everything comes out clean. It is very quiet - quiet enough to go on at night and not bother occupants of my modern paper thin walled house. It cleans far better than my old bottom of the range cheap Zanussi. The cutlery tray can be moved to different positions on the bottom shelf.

- Loading - Items on the top shelf can tumble around. Cutlery tray is less irritating to load once you take out the square dividers (I have used one of these to line part of the bottom shelf so that items do not fal through the gap - so the square dividers can come in useful..)

- I thought the idea of moving the cutlery tray would be a good point in fact is makes stacking the dishwasher much more difficult. I would not recommend this dishwasher to anyone other than a couple as it seems to be a lot smaller than my previous dishwasher and I have to put it on everyday rather than every two to three days.

- I don't seem to be able to load as many items into this new machines as my old Hotpoint dishwasher, purchased in 1992. The cycle also takes longer than my previous machine.

- Trying to get the right amount of salt in is difficult. Put too much in initially and this caused some clouding on glasses. Once the right amount was in this was sorted

+ This diswasher was bought for my parents who are in their mid eighties. They find it easy to operate and use it every day.

- On delivery the drivers left two scratches on the door of the diswasher. It does not affect the disher washer.

- The cutlery compartment didn't fit knives and forks which were normal size. When you switch the machine on its puases the cycle until you press it again to un pause it - shouldn't just start the cycle when you tell it to?

+ Compared to my previous dishwasher this one gives a really good performance dishes don't come out dirty so often. Really easy to clean as well.

- Normal wash cycle takes ages, therefore intensive wash is sooo long
