Hoover DM 5530 Pets & Stairs

+ Powerful suction

- Poor build quality, motor burnt out within 3 months, filters require washing every other week, heavy, small capacity dust collection unit, unstable on stairs, foot-peddle to release very difficult to use (need to wear shoes to apply enough pressure). A very poor hoover - avoid !

+ the concept of no dust bags

- Extremely noisy - already had the motor replaced

- When using hand nozzle even with the stabiliser extended, it topples over on flat floor carpets. It is alright on stairs.

+ It's powerful and a very reasonable price.

- Interior design is awful. When collecting dust it has to pass various filters with the major problem being:
1) The dust 'waste' unit is far to small.
2) At the top of the 'waste' unit there is a filter, the area that is available for the dust to pass through is way too small! Human hairs will get entangled around the small red cylinder filter and blocks the passage hence the dust cannot pass into the waste unit. This hoover is supposedly designed with the purpous of collecting animal hairs - no chance! Also it is designed to be good for people who suffer with asthma (like myself) - I have to empty the waste unit each time I hoover and un-block the filter - certainly does not do my lungs any good!
3) You are meant to wash the 'red' filter each time you empty the waste unit, and there is another filter that you wash every 5 empties - I spend more time cleaning the Hoover than I do hoovering the carpets!

+ Easy to use and light

- The Hoover states it is for pet hair, but I have a dog and it's a nightmare. When the hair is picked up it clogs the filter and collection box, so you are forever having to stop and start. The Turbo head again meant to be great for pet hair is useless, it's designed for the stairs but the tension on the joining plastic of the attachment to the pipe has caused mine to crack the attachment. The Hoover has also got a hard floor option which yes it makes the dirt disappear, but instead of sucking the dirt up it blows it to the sides.

- its very noisy and the handle is to short the cord is also to short and it keeps tipping over i would noy buy this again

+ Has all the components that I wanted especially the pet hair tool. Can easily see when the collector is full, easy to empty, great not to need bags. Not to heavy either, easy to move about.

- Flex could do with being a few metres longer, bit picky but true.
No place on the hoover to store the pet hair collector.

- Have to clean filter sfter each use or it loses a lot of power. Also the attachment pipe gets very hot and this makes it difficult to remove from the body of the machine to attach cleaning nozzles. Doesn't like picking up tiny bits of fluff. Heavy to carry up the stairs.

- Filters clog with dust very easily. And gets blocked between vacuum body and dust container, so needs to be emptied and cleaned after every room.

- doesn't hold enough dirt. Gets clogged up very quickly. Hoover 1 room & need to empty & de-clog. When using extension, other than stairs, hoover falls over. p.s. why put (Optional)?
Heavy to use

+ Lightweight, long hose reach, good suction.

- Difficulty in operating the pedal that drops the main lower beater part.
Electric cable too short.
Awkward to empty.

- The extension pipe tool falls off now and again when you use it and gets on your nerves cause you have to keep picking it up.

- the worst hoover i have ever used, noisy and you only get good suction when you empty the cylinder before each time you use it and the cylinder is so tiny it should never have been made

- Lead not long enough to vacuum entire room have to change to another socket to finish. Dust container is easily clogged (I HAVE ALARGE HAIRY DOG!) It is not large enough have to empty a lot.

- Very noisy, produces a loud high pitched screaming whine that is hard to tolerate for long. If I had known how noisy it was I would not have bought it. I am concerned about all the 'snapable' plastic on it. Instructions are poor.

+ The pet hair tool is a godsend and the thing to stop it keeling over whilst you hoover your stairs is dead clever.

- The first one broke and I had to take it back, this was not the easiest thing as the shop took ages to change it after i had phoned up to get the code from Hoover they then had to call for the same thing !!
