The laptop is quite sleek and stylish and starts up quickly. The quality of the DVD playback is superb (though I have not played a blue ray disc yet) and the machine handles everything, including the graphics of games, effortlessly. Overall it seems to have proved to be excellent value for money.
-
The battery seems to drain quite quickly when I use it on battery only although the battery does charge very quickly so this is never an inconvenience.

Lovely screen (17"), not the highest resolution (1440 x 900) but enough for the screen size. Dedicated graphics (useful for Vista), runs so smoothly, performance hasn't been an issue so far. Really easy to perform media streaming, TV-out. The BluRay is a great bonus (ROM, not RW). It's a little more deep than some 17" so be aware of this when trying to get a laptop bag for it. Overall it really was the best value for money at the time of purchase and I would highly recommend it for the more technical laptop user, occasional gamer (won't run the top games like Crysis very well - it's not a dedicated gaming laptop), as well as being great for day to day tasks. A little bit for everyone here. HP even provide a polishing cloth to keep the nice glossy black casing ncie and shiney (gets rid of those fingerprints).
-
None really. Doesn't come with backup discs - it has a recovery portion on the HDD but this is fairly standard these days. You can back it up yourself with the HP wizard, although it will only let you do it once. Needs 2 DVD-Rs or about 14 CD-Rs!

This laptop offers great quality if you are looking for a middle of the range computer, it gives good performance coupled with a beautiful design. The Processor is of good speed, along with a good size memory and a graphics card that is not integrated is handy. Having Blu-ray on a decent 17" widescreen looks beautiful as well.
-
The core battery life is low, its stated at 2 hours but sometimes it struggles to make this, but then again this kind of big laptop is not all about portability, I was looking for something in the home that was portable and this was ideal.

Good all-round machine with good versatility. Blu-ray playback capability is a bonus at this cost-point. I think this laptop currently beats any other machine in this price-range, as far as bang-for-buck goes...
It is supplied with a good range of software, from DVD burning tools to Video authoring...
-
Screen needs to be viewed in the vertical plane at the "sweet-spot". This is achievable by tilting the screen panel to the optimum viewing angle. Not a problem if you are the only viewer, but if you are demonstrating something to another person, you must ensure they are at the same eye-level too. The effect can be reduced by turning down the brightness.

The blu-ray drive sometimes won't shut properly, and whether that's a problem with the design or something that's unique to my particular machine I don't know. Excellent size screen for watching movies. BluRay drive to play back hi-def movies through your tv thanks to the hdmi socket. Nvidia graphics allows excellent visuals on older 3d games. Medieval 2 plays great on high quality graphics. Haven't tried any newer games yet.

Includes blueray, 3gb ram and 2.0 C2D (5800) Intel which sort of seems like a bargain for such a price.

Battery doesnt last long and once the laptop has heated it does not charge rather says plugged in but cannot charge. Its not a bios or the os problem rather the best way to get it charged again is to let it cool for a while and then try again.
