come with windows vista - fantastic, also has windows media centre which is brilliant for watching DVds (tv if you have accessory) photos etc. fast, easy to use, excellent screen quality, well designed. comes with remote control for media centre so you can relax on sofa while turning on your cmputer, watching a dvd and turning it all - all without moving. also excellent for doing my work, and good storage capability
-
as a 17 inch it is quite heavy, and there are fewer cases around to buy for it

This PC is fast, has bags of memory and, because of its good size, is really easy to use with a full sized keyboard and seperate number pad.
The screen quality is excellent - truely impressive - and the built in web-cam is fun and easy.
Used with my dongle this is a truely mobile office.
-
Size and weight are two seperate questions! I wanted a large screen and full sized key board and in this case it is a good choice.. However, with size you have to sacrifice some weight benefits so it can be a little heavier than expected. Overall its fine - seperatly, the it could be a little lighter.

Very good size as to desktop replacement, it's bit big 17" widescreen 3.2kg, full size keyboard, integrated webcam/microphone, wireless enabled but not bluetooth. Dual Core Processor TL-60 (2.0 GHZ) fast and efficient.
-
Microphone doesn't work properly, doesn't absorbe much sound. No bluetooth, infrared port and no HDMI. The graphics card should be of a better spec.

Great value for money. Good battery life for the price. Good specification for the price. Good multimedia support - noteably s-video out, usb ports and audio-out.
-
In terms of bundled software - Microsoft Media Centre is truly awful. In terms of the laptop, it does not seem to support 5.1 audio-out. Getting the s-video to work involves far more technical knowledge and experience than the average person should be expected to have. The video-out/display settings need to be reset EVERY time the laptop boots down (even sleep mode).

The quickplay keys are easy to use to set up the dvd player... having a separate set of keys for the numbers is good as well.
Having 4 usb ports is excellent and the dvd/ lightscribe player is pretty good too.
-
nothing with the machine- windows vista can be problematic but with 2Gb of RAM you are able to make this machine pretty good.
Oh and don't get a 17" screen if you are going to be carrying it around lots, it's really heavy, but for watching films and tv on it's great.

Well designed very sleek looking machine. Build quality is very good, but wouldn't expect anything less from HP. Large 17" screen, built in nemerical key pad. Space to install a second hard drive (see bad points)
-
Graphics card is not exceptional so don't buy this machine to play games on. That said it is more than adequate for home or Office use. Although a second hard drive can be installed a special adapter and caddy are required which I could only source from the USA (very expensive for what they are). Comes with a lot of HP bloatware pre-installed which slows the machine down considerably, but easily removed. Consider re-formatting and installing a fresh copy of windows which makes it much faster.

The HP DV9705 laptop looks quite stylish, lovely swirly pattern within the highly polished black & alu finishes, with cool blue leds to light up the built in 'touch' volume control, quick dvd, start-stop-play. 17" widescreen is far far better to look at films & other multimedia with than a 4:3 15.4", surfing no problem. Numeral keypad great for scientific use, spreadsheets etc. Built in webcam and phone absolutely a whizz for talking on Skype or Messenger - otherwise speakers were adequate, meaning still could do better HP.
-
Dear HP, why oh why did the laptop have to have a locking device, it means that there are slots cut in the nice alu spoiling the overall effect. From the feel I'd also expect the locking pegs to break sometime soon. Is it me or does the AMD processor get a bit hot?! Comparable Intels on my kids HP dual core laptops seem much cooler! Power cable input on the right hand side seems awkward, an extra USB port could be nice. HP ship all their laptops with 30 day bundles of software, Microsoft Office and Norton or MacAfee or whatever to fund some saving to customer? not sure but obviously you take the time to wipe it and get some space back on the Hard Drive, but the HP software like all the rest seem as though they never thought to ask customers what tools they'd like.

You know, if HP had just thought a bit more this could have been a great stylish computer - the pattern on the casing is fab, powerful AMD dual core processor, 2Gb memory, 17" widescreen ( mines a recon with initial bad pixels but now back 100% good ) fantastic for surfing or watching DVDs, proper Video card inside, brill built in web cam & microphone so you can use with skype or MSN . proper numeric keypad . finger sensitive media controls for volume, DVD .. etc.
-
The little men at HP chose to make this model with a locking mechanism, with slots cut in the alu casing, utterly spoiling the clean lines of the casing. Maybe as well as the CPU does seem to get noticeably warmer than an Intel equivalent ( had bought 2 17" HPs for my son & daughter which you couldn't feel any CPU heat ). An extra USB port would be nice ( they never use the back which would get these out of the way of DVD and power cords etc ). & obviously they want to sell you their HP care software which drags down the efficiency, along with antivirus & Office which you then take off.
