- Disappointing that it does not come in a pack complete with case and electric charger etc, as these had to be bought separately.

+ it is brilliant in all respects except one small thing. See below

- when typing in details, if an error is made it does not seem possible to go back one spave - rather it takes you back to the very beginning of where you started keying details. Not a major problem, more a small annoyance

The functions and menu etc are easy to use and it picks up the satalites quick which enables you to set your journey straight away.

+ It's simple to use and gives clear instructions. If you choose to take an alternative route it can quickly recalculate new directions.

- Sharp bends or turn offs can be described differently by the Satnav but you quickly get used to this.

+ Bought as a present for parent in his 70's. He's not brilliant with a mobile phone but he soon got the hang of this and was extremely impressed by it. My two 13 year old sons can also programme it with ease, so if it's a simple to use Sat Nav you want this is fantastic. I would buy this for my own use.

- Has occassionally lost it's signal when in the countryside. If you have big fingers it's easy to press the wrong thing - so my Dad says.

+ cheap

- try post code BT41 2DX one ended up in the wrong place. often do not have enough data for the right place. Maps are poor in rural areas. redirections poor if one had taken a wrong turn. tried using it in Dublin city centre! Oh boy, what a mess I was in

+ Easy to use, loud enough to hear, good extras like car parks and hotels

- It gets confused in city centres and flyovers and we had to rely on road signs instead
No USB lead supplied so you can't register the purchase and use the online shop which lists suppliers of leads until you buy one or update the software and maps. How stupid! Tesco doesn't sell them either.
It has trouble getting a signal if you switch it on indoors before you leave. It worked fine in the Mersey Tunnel but lost the signal on the M62 in Yorkshire!

- poor direction wise when coming to big roundabouts, tells which exit but if its a multiple lane roundabout you have to look at road signs for the correct lane. also if there is two round abouts or if you are needing to take a right turn after a roundabout you are most probably in the wrong lane!

Packed with up to millions of points of interest (POIs) and maps for Europe, the 255 is compact, versatile and easy to use.

Simplicity and safety

nüvi 255 comes preloaded with City Navigator® NT map data for Europe. Simply touch the colour screen, key in your destination and nüvi takes you there with turn-by-turn spoken directions, 2-D or 3-D mapping and smooth map redraw rates. Digital elevation maps show shaded contours for an understanding of the surrounding terrain. In addition, nüvi 255 accepts custom points of interest such as traffic blackspots and post offices and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs. With HotFix™ satellite prediction, Garmin calculates your position faster to get you there quicker.

nüvi 255’s advanced Cyclops safety camera database helps you travel with the confidence you are driving safely, responsibly and legally. As you approach one of hundreds of fixed, mobile and temporary safety cameras, variable limit or red light speed cameras across Europe, it gives an audible alert, overspeed warning and speed limit information.

nüvi 255 also comes with Garmin Lock™, an inventive anti-theft protection system that uses GPS to lock to a secure location of your choice.

Traffic avoidance (optional accessory)

With the addition of a traffic receiver (optional), the nüvi 255 model can provide lifetime traffic alerts to provide dependable delay information and keep you aware of jams, accidents and roadworks on your route. With the addition of a Traffic ReceiverThese alerts are informed by real-time data from reliable sources including the Highways Agency, police traffic control centres and more than 8000 traffic flow cameras and sensors on motorways and trunk roads across England, Wales and Scotland. This service is broadcast over a national network of FM radio stations to ensure an excellent reception.

Your traffic is always a toggle away. Just flick between your navigation screen and congestion delay information, reassured you will be guided safely to your destination. nüvi 255T’s versatile navigation works with the traffic alerts to report on the tailbacks and suggest a better route around the delay.
