- The machine needs to be either left swithed on all the time, consuming electricity unnecessarily, which is what Gaggia tell me is required to avoid the problem you get when switching it on and off. What is the problem? Each time it is swithed on and off it goes through a cleansing cycle which consumes water which requires emptying from the waste trays and of course refilling the water container which does not have a particularly large capacity. i.e every 5/6 cups of coffee depending upon capacity you have to go through the emptying / filling routine. I found this so inconvenient that I checked with Gaggia if there was anything wrong with the machine. Fortunately the quality of the coffee makes it all worth while.
