+ Good general printer. The colour reproduction appears accurate on plain printing. The copier function works well and is easy to use. The Draft print option gives me pale, but readable, copies for ordinary use while minimising ink use. I have not yet used the scanner function or printed photos (although I would like to check out the stand-alone print from memory card feature, which looks excellent) but I would expect these to be of the same good quality. The ink refills are very reasonably priced, so maintenance costs should be low and were a key reason I picked this all-in-one. I have found it easy to use, the manual is clear and logical, and it was very easy to set up, too.

- My other computer runs Windows ME and this printer/copier/scanner has no drivers available for any Windows system before Windows XP, so is not compatible.

+ at the moment there is no fiddling about with fiddl buttons and it is straight forward to use, you can buy seperate cartridges at a competive price

- I just hope this epson DX 500 last longer than my last one which only lasted 16 months from purchase

- I do not find it particularly easy to load papaer. Have not yet replaced any cartrige but it looks straight foreward. Hoping it will accept 'compatibles'.

+ really easy to install, just follow the instructions and you will have no problems. I did it and I am a bit of a techno phobe. Colour printing is great, scanner is excellent as is the printing.

- Had a bit of a hiccough with the print heads at first. I thought that it used a lot of ink in comparison with my last epson, but when I really thought about it, the ink cartridges for this printer are smaller than my last one. This is reflected in the price of the cartridges, so it is really just the inconvenience of changing the ink more often

- slides on desk too easily, needs rubber feet for grip.
scanner lid needs to tilt back farther so you dont have to hold it up when placing a document / photo on the scanner glass.

- just as the printing starts, the machine make awful clanging/banging noise.When scanning a document, it takes on the number of the file from our old printer ie comes up for example file 0003 that file number relates to a previously scanned document.

+ As yet I have had no problem with printing once everthing is in place

- The Bar to keep the paper in place is awkward to move.
The Paper slides through and you have to keep on putting it back in.
The front that you pull out to allow your printed things to come through keeps on falling out of place, once put back.

- Noisy during printing. Snatches paper. Does not like thicker paper than standard A4 copier paper. Not campatible with my windows based label program when set as default printer.

+ Great print speed. Quality prints. People had stated that it was noisy - I haven't found that. Scanning is simple through icon on desktop. The photocopy function is great - quick and again easy to use. It has individual ink cartridges, so you don't have to replace the whole thing when you have just ran out of black. It was also easy to install and looks good.

+ This is a very good and reliable printer. The print quality is clear and perfect, even when printing photos. It's a bit bigger then my last printer which was a simple inkjet but it fits nicely onto the desk. It's very lightweight and the software is really easy to install. I like that you can use it as a photocopier or to print photos without having to have a computer attached. Overall a very good printer for the price and it looks more expensive then what it actually was.
