Epson V300 scanner

+ slim-lines,neat & quiet running

Needed to tape-down bottom lugs to stop holder moving out of position when removing slides,this also
acted as a hinge when cleaning down glass bed on occasions. A bit flimsy this item.

- Maybe similar machines by other manufacturers had more facilities. Better handbook would have been helpful

+ worked straight away and the software was really easy to use to remove hairs etc from old slides and negs.

- non really bit slow in scanning negs and slides but i have nothing to compare it with

+ good qualty images, aesthetically pleasing, relatively compact, the lid allows it to copy thick texts.

+ This provides me with the means to scan old magazine articles, films & slides and to archive them easily. The price is a good compromise of image quality Vs use. It is also built to the same quality as my Epson printer.

- The film / slide carrier is a bit flimsy and looks like it could break with more than minimal use so I would be concerned as to wether I could obtain a replacement easily and cheaply.

- The power and USB sockets in the bottom right corner are bad design. There are cable channels to manage the cables up to the top where they belong but this just highlights that the sockets are in the wrong place. Also the ferrite core on one cable will easily pull it out of the channel unless it is supported.

- Would like to have had the mains and USB connections coming from the rear of the scanner, have to place and use the V300 back to front to hide leads!

+ Excellent Value For Money. I mainly use for copying 35mm slides

- Instructions poor. Only handles 4 slides at a time.

+ Produces excellent resutls when scanning slides. That was why it was bought and it is brilliant. I was surprised at how good they were.

- A bit slow, not the most compact design (needs to accomodate a bigger lid for the slide scanner). But at the end of the day it is a great scanner.

+ easy to use. takes 6 negatives at a time. software allows for bmp as well as jpg formats.

+ Easy to use, comes with the Epson Scan Utility which automatically detects the type of object on the platen and then scans multiple objects in the same scan and saves them as seperate pictures. Superb for scanning old slides and photos which was my main reason for purchasing.

- Works OK on my main desktop PC running XP OS but haven't been as successful with my laptop running Vista.

+ The cover opening along the longest side rather than the short side as per most scanners makes for easier operation and location.

+ No problems with the software. Brilliant scan quality. Better than the scanners at college and the local library! Smooth case - easy to keep clean with a damp cloth.
I wonder if the competitor's scanner design, which takes it's power from the computer's power source might not be a good thing for the computer?

- I can't think of any bad points. It has some features and some software which I will not need to use, but I suppose there are people who will need them.

+ Easy to use & store. Great quality copies. Needed for producing teaching resources for use with my class. Can't really fault it.

+ hard to rate on all the items above - we chose itbecause we'd used an earlier model previously and it seemed to do what we wanted at a price we thought reasonable - but didn't do the teccie investigations/comparisons - it looks nice and does what we need so far! important characteristic was it scans 35mm transparencies -

+ Easy to understand and to use. Light weight, an important consideration when you have to store it when not in use.

+ Very easy to set up and works on Vista x64 unlike some scanners. Scanned about 1,000 old photos (colour and B&W) with excellent results. When coping a number of photos at one time, this equipment will, if required, automatically crop and reproduce individual copies, which saves a considerable amount of time. Not used the OCR yet, but expect it will provide great results.

- Can be a bit slow scanning, will only handle 35mm negatives and slides, so will not cater for smaller negatives very easily

+ Does the job and works with both Macs and PCs, which was the main reason for buying. Easy to use and set up.

- doesnt scan anything larger, eg 120mm negs (medium format) or lage format

+ Easy to use, good features such as pdf. Saves energy by having almost no warm up; scanner can be off when not required saving electricity. Scaned images are very good quality. Word recognition software much improved (previously owned Epson perfection 1240U)

+ I have had Epson products in the past and this item lives up to it's expectations, it does all I want and more, I would reccomend to any one buying a scanner to give this one more than a psssing thought.

+ Good quality images. Simple to use if you want it to be, more features if you want to explore. Liked the dust removing feature for slides.

- It does take quite a long time to scan in a whole film if you are updating your archive. You soon learn how to judge the time taken and go away to do something else!
