Epson Perfection V500 Photo

+ Quality.

- The manual gives NO information on how to use certain items - only that they exist as part of the package. For using with my Apple Mac, there is no facility for some options, such as 'copier' mode.

+ good on 35mm film and colour slides
very pleased with the results i am getting i feel this will get better as i get more familiar with the scanner as this is my 1st. machine

- medium format difficult to setup in holder quite flimsy
all film holders difficult to insert films without leaving finger prints
i would think more experience will cure most problems

+ Excellent qualityand easy to use for main functionality

- Can only view manual via a web browser -should provide manual in format that can be printed out in full (e.g. PDF). Holder for negatives is a bit flimsy.

+ I spent a long time reviewing products and this covered all the points i wanted. I am into photography in abig way and the results from the epson v500 are first class.

- Non-intuitive software. Crashes frequently in most unexpected moments (used with Mac).

+ Ease of operation, one button auto mode to complete control (professional mode), no warm up time and quieter than earler scanners.

- No provision for instamatic negs, problems with black and white negs - still working on it.

+ Excellent quality, clean scan without surface interference.

- PSE is great, but stretches my PC's 2G RAM, and large image files proves the 'program not responding' message.
So my next purchase....Windows7 and 4g Ram upgrade!!

- some bugs in scanner software cause system to freeze (using XP with latest dowloaded driver.)

+ Compact, easy to use and excellent quality scanning, particularly slides and negatives.

- Slow process, but quality is the reward for patience.

+ Scan photos like a dream, you can fit as many as you want on the glass and as long as you leave 'daylight' between each photo the scanner will scan them as individual images not just one montage! The quality of slide scanning is excellent. The software allows you to remove any blemishes and improve the colour all done in the scanning process. Installation was easy and within minutes you are scanning away! Very pleased

- It's big! A piece of streamlined kit it isn't! However, you forgive it for what it can do. It can only scan 4 slides at a time...on it's own, a minor niggle. However, when you add the fact that it takes around 8 minutes to scan the 4 slides it turns into a gripe. However, please don't let this put you off buying the scanner. I have hundreds of slides from my childhood and it has been fantastic to see them all again without trying to find a projector or holding them up to a light source and squinting!

- Very slow compared to my previous HP machine
