Vacuuming: excellent - the best machine I've used for lifting carpet dust. At its best on large carpets.
Dust container is easy to empty and cleverly designed to minimise spillage while emptying. The air does seem cleaner after a room been "vac'd"!
-
Heavy and cumbersome in restricted spaces. The attachment is often "fiddly" (ie awkward) to use; it takes several steps to assemble and the "crevice tool" should not be angled. The attachment is an unwelcome hassle which needs re-designing to make it simpler and quicker to use.

Tee plastics that are currently being used eg in the collection bin and the associated fixings are not as substantial as what were used on past models. Only time will tell if they will stand up to use or snap / crack. On inspection it appears that this is a very good possiblity this will happen. Especially on the release lock when emptying the collection bin. It's a bit fiddley. Is this an example of a Manufacturer trading off poor quality components in an attempt to keep production prices down and stay competative.

When useing the hose extended the suction causes the hose to colapse and the vacum cleaner hurtles to you, it could do with having a wheel brake to stop this.

The DC14 appears smaller and lighter than my previous DC04. Another major plus is the way you can empty it at the push of a button, instead of taking it to bits and getting covered in dust.

The shape of the crevis tool makes it awkward to use in narrow places where you thinl it is designed for. No where near as good as the DC04 style

Initially, we had difficulty taking the dirt collector off, but once you get the hang of it, it's easy....!!! It gets clogged up quite easily, however once cleaned it's back to normal.. One of the attachments doesn't stay on very easily (not the carpet brush or the other flat one, the tall thin one). It's comes off when you're trying to hoover around.

The best vacuum cleaner we have ever had! It does an excellent job at keeping our carpets cleaned, especially with a baby and a dog! It even cleaned our car well. Though the initial cost is quite large, for us it has been worth the extra money. The only thing I have a problem with once in a while is the hose and attachments on it when doing the stairs, but it's mostly because the suction is so fantastic, it's difficult to keep the hose extended because it wants to just suck right back in! But, I'd rather clean carpets, than worry about whether or not the hose is easy to extend. You can even see all the dust and fine dirt it continues to suck up from the depths of your carpet. Overall, worth every penny, and definitely gives you peace of mind that you truly have vacuumed your carpets!

Its a Dyson! As the name suggests, very reliable, very robust, compact and good power for its size. The body is structurally strong. Motor has good suction power. More than adequate for all domestic uses. It costs more than your usual Vacuum cleaners, but delivers what it promises.
-
Slightly awkward extention system but one gets used to it once you start using it.
Expensive, but then you get a 5 year manufacturer's warranty....plenty of peace of mind.
Heavy: ok, if you live in a bungalow, but is quite a handful to carry up the stairs....no worse than competitors though....but being a Dyson, the manufacturer could look into producing lighter versions with same power.

The suction is amazing. I didn't realise how dirty my carpets had been and the dyson got full up after one room! I kept going over and over the rooms and emptying the dyson after each go and I think I now have all the 'old' dirt up. My carpets actually look a different colour and my home is brighter!
-
I have long hair which tends to fall out all over the place. My hair gets caught around the brushes. In the past I have had this problem with other vacuum cleaners but didn't expect Dyson to have the same design problem. I have been pulling the hair off from around the spindle at the end of each use but I find this rather tedious and dirty for my hands. However, I have to do it or else the band will burn and break (as happened with other makes of vacuum). Is there anything you suggest for this problem? I don't really want a cylinder style as I find they hurt my back.
