+ It sounds fabulous - proper hi-fi from a standalone box. The speakers are remarkable. It's dead simple to use day-to-day yet hiding underneath are all the bits you need to tweak it.
It also looks fabulous.
It's just a joy to have in a room.

- Longer cables would be better for me.
Tuner controls on back of remote under a flap. But hey, I can live with this!

+ It looks good and the sound quality from the two bookcase size speakers is excellent. There is good range of functions and the remote is one of the best.

- The instructions for pre programming radio stations is not very clear. It took some time to get my head around the steps needed to achieve the required programme settings I wanted.

+ Sound quality is fantastic and being able to change channel with the remote for the ipod is a nice touch. Also like the design and its simple to use, not too many buttons which sometimes are too confusing!

Within its compact casing, the Denon S81 manages to pack in a powerful, digital 50 watt amplifier, DAB/FM/AM tuner and a flexible CD player. Also included with the latest Denon mini system you’ll find a pair of specially tuned speakers. Although similarly compact, thanks to special tuning, the sound quality is anything but – expect a tinny sound quality and you’ll be amazed by the S81’s depth and scale of sound.

Enhancing the S81’s flexibility, the CD player will happily play MP3 and WMA discs. Furthermore, with its built-in DAB tuner a huge range of digital stations are available. Both CD and radio are well served by the comprehensive, twin line, blue display. As you’d expect from a modern all-in-one system, the S81 features, amongst other inputs, a special iPod connection.

With its clean styling and wonderfully simple control layout, the S81 manages to hide its wide range of features well.
