+ Very easy to use as point and shoot but with plenty of manual control if wanted. Great zoom, cd quality sound on video, zoom works in video mode and is very quiet, not picked up on the sountrack of any I have shot. Viewfinder adequate for setting up shots with all the information you need. Swivel screen makes taking shots above or below eye level easy. Although video is not HD it looks great on 32'' Hd screen.

- Batteries could last a bit longer but with two sets of quality re-chargeable more than enough.

- Would have liked a book with how to use the camera instead of having to download off the computer.

+ The flip out screen is really useful (especially for short people to look over others or round corners!). There is a wide variety of settings. Because of the AA batteries it is quite heavy but it does mean you can change the batteries in the middle of the day!

- The dial is hard to use to move between the scenery settings - it takes some getting used to.

+ SLR capability in a "compact" camera package.
Why carry the extra weight and bulk when this has 95% of an SLR's capabilities.

- Needs a standard screw thread on the end of the lens to take filters (UV, Polariser, Cokin Filters etc).

+ Best camera Ive ever owned. photos are superb, fully loaded with features Very fast to focus, locks on focus.and doesnt hunt. sturdy build. Huge zoom range, well built,. and its a Canon.
Why buy a DSLR !

- No screw thread on the end of the lens for fitting filters ect, but a quick search on the web sorted that.
No internal memory, buts thats no problem either. Instruction book is a bit of a "read".
On the whole nothing to grumble about.

+ I bought this as an update for the SX1IS as I had found this to be a great camera but it has sadly gone wrong. The update to 20X optical zoome is amazing. I find the camera easy to use as separate dials/buttons do different things rather than having to trawl through a menu on a single control. It feels sturdy in the hands and makes photography comparable to my old film SLR but with the bonus that you don;t have to worry about wasting film.

- Haven't found any as yet

+ Terrific Camera....The super zoom with image stablisation is great. I like the bigger feel of the camera and this suits me. With a little knowledge, you can achieve almost anything that you want

- If you are inclined to use auto setting only, you may be disappointed. I find myself using the program mode and + 2/3 exposure as I find auto pictures a bit dark.

Score 9.0/10

+ Takes great pictures. Rich colours, not washed out like many digital cameras
Flexible to use - can use in a fully manual mode or in automatic mode. Good selection of creative presets
Smaller than a digital SLR but can use in a similar fashion except cannot swap lenses
Has a picture stitch facility - good for landscapes
Has hot shoe for flash

- Does not have screw thread for attaching lens filters. That said, it is actually possible to snap fit 52mm filters in - I have a Jessops UV filter attached. I guess if filters are repeatedly fitted and removed the plastic grooves (that do look like screw threads) will eventually wear and not hold a filter. In automatic mode, if the flash is required, the flash has to be manually raised. Lens cap clips in but does not have an attachment lead to the camera body - so it is easy to loose! I bought a stick on lead but inevitably it didn't last long and I now need to order a new lens cap! Shame Cannon didn't spot these simple flaws -spoils an otherwise great camera

Score 8.0/10

+ This was a replacement for the SX110 and is packed with features which can, at first be a little overwhelming. If you're used to the Canon menu system already, you'll love this camera as it extends on it and makes it very customizable. I particularly love the pop-out LCD display which can be udjusted to just about any angle so that you can always cue up the perfect shot. The zoom is enormous - 20x optical with a virtually silent motor which makes it great for video recording. It can then be extended further by the digital system which has some intelligence built-in to avoid heavily pixelated shots. For those who are not photographic maestros, the standard point & shot modes produce excellent results with little or no effort. Intelligent face recognition that follows your face, multi AF settings galore, the list goes on and on. The colours it produces are vibrant and realistic and in low light it does a decent job even at long focal lengths. If you're brave, you can set this baby into full manual and configure everything to your heart's content. I think the best mode is 'Program mode'. You can also attach a standard flash beam or additional lenses/filters. This camera is almost SLR quality but for digital camera money. Have I mentioned it does wide-screen photos too?

- This camera is not small, it's much bigger and heavier than my previous camera the SX110 and a lot of that bulk is consumed by the gargantuan lens and zoon function. It can be held easily in the average hand but you will normaly need 2 hands for taking shots. You will need a proper camera bag - don't be tempted to try and fit this in a handbag! The stated batttery life in my experience is nowhere near 340 shots, it nearer to 250 but maybe that was becasue I was playing so much with the features and the zoom. The viewfinder, although it has manual focus adjustment is not very good against the competition.

Face Detection Technology
Great people shots – and movies – are made easy with the latest Face Detection AF/AE/FE/WB technology, which even detects distant or partially-visible faces. Face Select & Track optimises settings for a chosen person, while FaceSelf-Timer waits for you to enter the frame for great self-portraits or group shots.

Optimum contrast
Working in both shooting and playback, i-Contrast boosts brightness in dark areas. The result is improved contrast with detail retained in tricky lighting conditions.

Movies with stereo sound
Create long, high quality 30fps VGA movie clips with CD quality stereo sound. Accurate auto focus and exposure is maintained even with moving subjects.

Speedlite compatible
For extended shooting options and better light coverage, the PowerShot SX10 IS is compatible with Canon’s EX Speedlite flash range.
