This is an excellent camera with most of the features you'd find in a DSLR, but at a size that fits in your pocket. Image quality is outstanding and the ability to shoot in RAW format gives you the ability to make more adjustments after shooting than you can with a camera that only shoots JPEG. If you're after a top-end compact camera this is definitely worth looking at.

For all its features, it is a little on the pricey side.

The G9 is a very competent camera and produces very good recordings of the image taken. Its slightly larger size and weight from other cameras allows for better control and handling and most of the controls fall easily to hand. 12 megapixels is impressive in its own right but the ability to join pictures in the supplied software allows for monster sized images to be produced.

The supplied memory card is woefully small and should be replaced at the soonest opportunity. I personally did not like the suite of software supplied with the camera finding them 'too idiot proof'

Resolution maybe too high, quality might've been better if resolution remained at 10mp like the G7. Limited performance for night photography due to small sensor compared to a DSLR

Has full manual control for those that want to think about taking photographs. A great compact compromise, you don't need an SLR. Very good battery life, easy downloading. Full auto features for snap-happy moments (which I use a lot) but a pleasure to over ride when time, opportunity and subject permit. Some 'wow!' shots with the macro and I can't believe the stitching results.

To put this much in a small camera means a lot of buttons, menus & controls. For me reading the manual was essential (something less than common) and as a new user I have to wonder a bit where to find the control I'm looking for. But it's this control which elevates the quality of the experience.

This is simply a first class camera for the user looking for a slightly more professional bit of kit than the average point and shoot machine. I've never been a huge fan of the viewing screens on digital cameras (preferring to use the eye viewfinder) but the quality of the one on this model is excellent and its size makes it easy to frame what you're shooting. I'm still getting to grips with all the facilities it offers but so far I'm delighted with the camera.

The only minus point so far is the lack of a hard copy of the full user manual. I much prefer to have an instruction book to flick through rather than scrolling around the CD rom manual.

Small enough to carry around for enthusiasts who want the controls of a "real" camera in the size of a point-and-shoot

Image quality dreadful, especially at higher ISO levels. Really grainy. Small and fiddly body, flimsy controls. No battery life indicator and if the battery happens to run out while you're using the camera, the lens stays open and does not automatically retract, exposing the camera to dust, debris and the risk of breakage (and not being able to fit it back into the bag!) Needless to say, mine went straight back to Jessops and am currently trying the Nikon equivalent instead.

This camera has a wonderful macro at only 1cm from the subject. You can shoot in RAW and manual. Very unusual for a compact camera. It's very easy to use and feels substantial in your hands, not at all plasticy. If you use it on manual it gives you a very good rendition of what you were looking at. I bought this camera as I wanted one that I could carry around with me. I have two DSLRs and they're too big for my handbag! :) I slip the strap over my grandson's head, put it on auto and off he goes. I also bought it for the macro. I do wedding photography and I wanted to use the macro on the G9 rather than change lenses on my cameras. I've been REALLY pleases with the results.

I haven't found any yet.

This is a sturdy camera. It has an excellent array of functions and settings including Raw image files.

When shooting in auto mode the colour green looks flourescent and artificial... never seen this before in other cheaper! digital cameras. also if you tilt the camera upwards in a cathedral eg. to take a picture of something on the wall, everything looks really dark and the green box goes hazy! so am a bit dissapointed considering the cost of this camera I would not have expected these problems.

For a compact digital camera it has to be the best outside bying an expensive SLR. With 12mp whats there to grumble about. Both my wife and myself have found it easy to use with it being user friendly from the off. Need to learn a little more about some features but who doesnt when bying a new camera. We wanted the best of both world. a compact camera with the features and photos of an expensive larger SLR. This ones a winner.

Not really a bad point about the camera but more of my experience with cameras. Theres a bit too many features but I'm sure with time I'll learn to use them to get the most out of the camera. Is this a bad point????

Professional quality for the keen photographer of at least average experience. Excellent transfer capability from camera to computer, using a variety of software. Very good for close-ups, macro, wonderful telescopic zoom, all you need in one easy package! Easy to use, clear large screen, sturdy and good handling. No fuss, no nonsense.

The fact that the rechargeable batteries cannot be used with other Canon products, "forcing" you to buy more spares. Clunky and old-fashioned looking, lacking in aesthetics but the performance way outweighs looks. Fits easily into a handbag but not into a regular pocket, leaving the neck strap the more practical option, typical "tourist" style!

Huge amount of control over the camera settings when you want it and the auto everything take pretty good shots too. Definitely a camera for using the manual settings, there are much cheaper options if you want an automatic compact camera. Its brilliant.

The manual only comes as a PDF, and a wrist strap rather than a neck strap would have been good. One annoyance is that in auto mode every time you turn the camera off the flash setting will revert back to auto and so can go off when you don't want it too. Those are stupid problems, its a great camera.

There are too many good points to mention. Each time i take it out to use i discover something new about the camera.

It is a technical camera in a small camera disguise. This is not a bad thing. but with the product being more technical than the smaller compact point and shoot cameras it would be nice for the instruction manual to be pre printed for you.

Well-build camera, nice "retro-style" design. Feature rich and class-leading image quality (up to ISO 400). Ability to shoot RAW and broad support of the format by applications has been a decisive factor. Would definitely buy it again.

High to very high noise above ISO 400, loss of detail due to noise reduction. In fact too much resolution for the small sensor size, less would be more. Bundled camera strap is rather awkward to use, recommend to get a better one.
