+ Superb HD Picture Quality.
Super Range Optical Image Stabilization (Optical is better than Digital).
The fastest focusing in the west (could easily rival the quickest gun-slinger).
Good quality 8 Mega Pixel stills.
Very large CMOS Sensor.
Great features.
Rather compact for it's semi-pro level of quality.

- Price is high, but you get what you pay for.
Would like to finally seen full 1080p (progressive) at 50/60p or gps (50 or 60 frames per second at full progressive quality).. surely the time has come for this now!
Stereo recording only, not 5.1 but this isn't really a big deal.
Stereo mics can still be a bit prone to terrible wind noise therefore would need to invest in the DM-100 Directional Stereo Mic that is compatible with this camcorder and comes with a proper 'wind muff'.

David, Liverpool , “Keen amateur”

+ It's so easy to use. Excellent quality picture and sound. Using auto just concentrated on the subject and got some excellent results straight out of the box.

- I'm going to have to buy a couple of better batteries. Seems mean to supply a small battery as standard. Same goes for the mini HDMI connector. Not supplied with the camera.

Score 9.0/10

Darren T, London

+ Fits nicely even in my small hands and it provides excellent video quality. Quite light compared to my last HD camcorder, superb.

- Battery life is quite poor with the supplied battery and the spares are very expensive. I wouldn't consider a compatible battery as they don't give you an accurate measurement of remaining power. So, looks like I'll have to grin and bear the cost.

Canon HD Camera System

Capture stunning images via the Canon HD Camera System: the LEGRIA HF S10 uses a unique combination of 8.0MP Full HD CMOS sensor, Canon HD Video Lens with 10x optical zoom (58mm filter diameter), and the DIGIC DV III processor.

Dual Flash Memory

32GB Dual Flash Memory combines large built-in capacity – enough for over 12 hours of HD movies – with the added option of recording to removable SDHC memory cards.

Intelligent shooting

Canon’s unique Instant AF system achieves highly accurate focus at speed. Super Range OIS combats every kind of camera shake, from slow to fast movements.

Creative manual control

A Custom Key lets you activate one of five variables which can be assigned to the manual Control Dial, including focus, exposure, and audio level. Further advanced controls include AGC (Auto Gain Control) limits – usually only found on professional camcorders, this boosts or limits responsiveness when shooting in low light – Zebra patterns, Colour Peaking and Colour Bar/Test Tone output.

Great videos made easy

Video Snapshot captures short 4 second movie clips – ideal for putting together in a playlist later. You can play back your montage of video clips with a soundtrack of your choice. Face Detection Technology automatically optimises settings for perfect people shots, detecting up to 35 faces in a frame. Pre REC captures the 3 seconds of action before you press Record – so you never miss the shot.

Colour options

DIGIC DV III supports x.v.Color – for deeper, richer hues when movies are played back on compatible HD TVs. 25p Cinema Mode matches the look of traditional film, and provides enhanced low-light shooting performance.

Still shooting

A dedicated Photo mode allows users to capture high resolution still images, up to 8MP. In Dual Shot mode, 6MP stills can be shot during video recording. Photo Burst grabs 25 stills from a single second of recorded footage.

Superior audio features

A microphone input connection and headphone jack let you capture and monitor superior audio. Manual audio level control provides even more options.

Flexible options

With a mini Advanced Accessory Shoe, attach a range of optional peripherals – such as a microphone or a video light.

Software

For simple editing and sharing, PIXELA™ software is supplied. DVDs are easy to burn at the touch a button with Canon’s DW-100 DVD Burner (available separately).
