+ this camera is outstanding, lightweight and versatile. I found it simple and intuitive to use. Its wide range of features will suit a range of skill levels from "point and shoot" right up to a skilled amateur. The battery life is also worth noting, i'm just back from a two week trekking holiday i took around 800 shots and used only a third of the power.
- I've had this camera for several months and so far i cannot fault it.

+ In Auto mode, just turn it on, point and shoot - it does auto focus and pop up flash if required Battery excellent. Camera USB connection worked first time each time I have connected camera to computer (Windows /XP), with previous cameras i gave up trying to get it to work and just took the memory card out of the camera and put it in a USB connected reader (which also didn't always work). Camera is lightweight but has a good look and feel.
- I was taking pictures of the Red Arrows at Farnborough, I used manual mode and the 70 -300mm Tamron lens, framing the picture means working fast and moving from rotating the barrel on the lens to pressing the shutter. Sometimes I found it difficult to hit the shutter button as it is quite a way forward on the camera and i have reasonably long fingers. Using the left hand to turn the barrel you have to hold the camera with the right hand, you then have to use a finger on the right hand to press the shutter which may require readjusting you right hand grip on the camera. Just a small point and maybe when I have used the camera more I will naturally find a way of solving this problem. Had to read the manual quite thoroughly to understand how to play back pictures, not quite as simple as on some other cameras where I have had a thumbwheel to move from one picture to the next. (thats why it gets 9 instead of 10 for ease of use).

+ This camera does everything it claims to do, great for the novice and those looking for something more advanced alike. Great image quality with rich colors, and the bundle here with the additional lens is great, although it is curious as to why it is not a Canon 300mm lens that is included, the Tamron does the job. Fantastic camera all round, and nice to see a Canon SLR using the SD card format.
- None. I honestly can not find any bad points to this camera at all, a great job by Canon.

+ The Canon EOS 450D is packed with features, like a 3inch screen, live view mode, over 12 million megapixels giving beautiful clear picture results etc, it has many of the features of a much more expensive professional camera but it's body is less robust. It is powerful enough to take the most demanding of shots yet light enough to be carried virtually anywhere, which is a plus point if you have a family of young children and carrying all of their essentials as well. This is my second Canon EOS and in my opinion it makes an excellent mid range DSLR choice.
- I haven't found any as yet...

+ The camera is great, simple easy to use, a good introduction into DSLR photography. Especially good I thought at the close up shots. lots of features
- none really you get what you pay for. However I'm dissappointed a little with the image quality..I'd sacrifice some of the features for slightly better focusing

+ Large, clear LCD display. Very comfortable to hold, nice weight and feel. Controls nicely positioned. Takes great pictures with the kit lenses. This is my first DSLR and I chose it because my old Canon AE1 finally died. I'm very pleased with this excellent camera.
- Haven't found any yet. Oh yes, I keep getting the urge to buy more lenses for it.

+ Canon produce some of the best camera's in the business. This is no exception! I purchased this camera in prepartion for my sisters wedding, however, since receiving the item I have yet to leave it alone. Plenty of features, comfortable to work with and quite light even with the lens attached.
- As yet I haven't any, instuctions are well written, but it will take some time to get used to all the features.

+ The image quality with the (new) kit lens is quite acceptable, in fact much better than I expected and seems to be capable of resolving the extra pixels. The IS works very well enabling hand held low light shots to be taken (e.g. inside churches) without pushing the ISO too much. Very impressed with the sensor, good dynamic range and low noise at ISO 800 (which makes it very usable if necessary). I find the camera handles well, together with being fairly light and (relatively) compact.
- The only bad point with the kit I bought is the Tamron 70-300 zoom that came bundled with it. Even if you stop the lens down the image at 300mm is not very sharp plus in many lighting situations there is a lot of purple fringing. OK this is a cheap lens but I was hoping for results that were at least usable. I guess I need to save up for a 'proper' long telephoto.

+ Everything. Great camera.
- Focus in live view

Russ, Wiltshire, “New to DSLR photography”
+ Excellent camera, great picture quality, loads of usefu features, quick to get use to the basic use.
- None really other than with so many geatures it takes a while to become proficient at them all but that can be seen as a good thing as well.

Dave, Liverpool, “Avid picture taker”
+ This camerra is just so easy to use but with the benefits of letting you experiment with the professional side of things by adjusting the settings. I would recommend this camera purely because it makes all the pictures i take look like they are from a magazine or out of an art gallery. I am now being asked to a lot more parties just because any pictures i take with the Canon 450D aare just the best.
- I wish it was cheaper..............But it is compared to other DSLR's

Helen, York, “busy working mum”
+ Absoloutly love it - my first digital SLR and doesn't disappoint. Really easy to use and taken some great photos.
- Lens that comes with camera is very limiting, so would recommend upgrading - Tamron that came with the bundle is great.

+ easy to use
- Terminal cover, flimsy

Rjt, Herts
+ Easy to use and good pictures. Lots of features from full Auto to creative manual. Lens is quick and lightweight, camera body light and small. Menus pretty simple, buttons laid out without fuss. Large screen at rear, viewfinder bright and large (although I am used to a bigger SLR one)
- Small camera bodies can be a disadvantage if you have large hands. I looked at Nikon D80 which felt much heavier and larger in the hand which gave it a feel of quality.

+ Perfect package to get you started. Good build quality and feature rich.
- Shame that the Tamron lens does not feature Image Stabilisation.

+ every thing
- I wish the standard lens was alittle better
21 Aug 2008
Paul, Lincoln, “Enthusiastic Amateur Photographer”
+ The Tamron zoom lens is well built and well balanced for ease of use however this lens is a fraction slower to focus and firmer to select the zoom setting than the Canon Lens.
- The Tamron Lens hood is difficult to attach and detach without turning the focus system against the motor if AF is selected.

+ Easy and fun to use. Reliable. Point and shoot and creative options makes this a very flexible photographic tool. Clear, concise menu options. Battery life good. Lens changing quick and easy.
- Live view shooting, not a bad point, but better results are obtained by using the 450D in SLR mode. An excelent DSLR canera overall.

Bruce, Eh30, “Professional”
+ Light compact
- Lens not compatible with my EOS 5D

+ Reasonably easy to use for someone who doesn't know a huge amount about photography.
- I'm not to happy with the quality of photos taken using the auto settings.
12 Aug 2008
Nick, Romsey, “First DSLR”
+ Easy to use Lightweight and not too big (good build quality though) Accepts all Canon's lenses
- Default sharpening setting is a little soft. This can be changed in-camera, or images can be sharpened easily later (using the DPP software that comes with the camera).

+ Ease of use. Quick easy set up and simple to follow instructions.
- Because the bundle came with a second lens I think a bag should have been included.

+ The Tamron zoon lens is far better than the Canon offered by the same price (I have tested both). The 4 Gigabyte memory card is more than enough for beginners and the camera features and potential is superb. When testing against Sony Alfa 14 megapixels, there is no difference at all in the quality results.
- I have no serious problems; I think it is a very good value for money. Some problems when managing white balance and exposure, the camera sometimes can’t get it right 1st time , but this is compensated by the large amount of options available and good use of them.
02 Aug 2008
Colin, Bromsgrove, “keen amateur”
+ small, light and excellent Canon quality
- complicated to use 'live view' mode
06 Jun 2008
Andrew, Skipton
+ Design, easy way round it, coming from compact digital to SLR means I've got plenty of learning to do, but the instruction manual is more than useful
- Only thing I've found so far that's a bit disappointing is the 450D badge on the bottom left of the camera has come off
15 Jul 2008
Chris, Pitsea, Essex, “keen amateur”
+ been really pleased with results so far. Have used both lenses. The 70-300mm has had more use as taking closeup photos of my grandchildren. Only used in auto mode and P mode so far.
- Would be nice to be able to use live view in all modes
31 Jul 2008
Graham, York
+ simple to understand instructions, ease of use from day one of purchase especially if first DSLR, comfortable to hold and use even with the large lens in kit,
- Instruction manual could be better put together as mine is falling apart.

Trudy, London, “Serious hobby photographer.”
+ Feels like professional quality camera. Totally the right move from a high spec compact to this model.
- Dont like the neck strap and lack of hand strap which might seem pointless but is reassuring!

+ The overall quality of the product is very good and the value for money with the twin lense's was exceptional
- the only thing i thought was not very good was the fact that their was no protective covering for the screen

+ The IS lens is outstanding and the 300mm macro/zoom lens, although not as high quality as the Canon lens, has allowed me to really experiment with a range of subjects. Both Jupiter and a close-up of a garden spider with the same lens, not bad!
- Image stabilization on the Tamron lens would make zoom shots in overcast weather easier. But for the bundle price lack of IS is understandable.

+ Although still learning what my first SLR can do I am very impressed with the quality. Even with a large lense it is relatively light and comfortable to hold. Changing settings, deleting images and uploading photos to a PC is easy to do and the softward provided is very good to get you started. I am astounded at the image quality, fab!
- The only thing it doesn't do which some may want is to allow you to use the LCD screen rather than view finder when taking a picture.
